Year 12 Drama visit to Sydney Theatre Company
In Week 2 Year 12 Drama visited Sydney Theatre Company where they firstly were audience for a set of Staged Readings of HSC Drama texts – ‘Fangirls’ by Yve Blake and ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ by Lally Katz. Being able to witness how a script can be brought to life by just three actors, and minimal props/costumes while still script in hand was invaluable to Year 12 in the lead up to their HSC Written Examination (Date TBA when HSC Timetable is published in May). Students were able to hear the songs from ‘Fangirls’ sung live for the first time, rather than recordings. This was followed by a Q&A with STC staff, the actors, director of both plays, and the original dramaturge of ‘Fangirls’.
In the afternoon, after lunch on the harbour, students returned to STC for a practical workshop on Indigenous Theatre focusing on ‘The Visitors’ by Jane Harrison. Thank you to Sydney Theatre Company for creating these opportunities for our students.
Across the day our students were exemplary ambassadors for BMGS.
Griffin Theatre – Griffin Young Ambassadors
Congratulations to Winnie, Nisha, and Meenatchi (Year 12) who have been selected as Griffin Young Ambassadors for 2026. This is a highly selective national program for young theatre makers and performers and we are very lucky to have three students selected. Across 2026, the Ambassadors see live theatre and participate in workshops at Griffin Theatre (currently at Belvoir Street Theatre while The Stables are being rebuilt/renovated).
Australian Theatre For Young People Youth Advisory Board
Congratulations to Georgia (Year 12) who is the first BMGS student to be selected for the AYTP Youth Advisory Board. The ATYP Youth Advisory Board is “ATYP’s national network of Young Creatives who help guide the company’s artistic direction, programming, and community engagement. Aged 12-26 from across Australia, the YAB ensures young people are not just represented at AYTP – they lead its vision” (http://atyp.com.au/program/youth-advisory-body). Georgia will spend 2026 meeting regularly with ATYP staff including the CEO and Creative Director to shape AYTP’s work nationally now and in the future.
