Japanese 

Students will learn words for communicating about the weather. This will include asking questions about the weather and describing the weather.  Japanese sentence patterns will be used, such as “Today is sunny.”  We will utilize flashcards and slide shows to support our learning. 

Students will also interact with each other in communication tasks which mimic authentic communication, such as commenting about the weather using adjectives. Students will also explore hiragana characters used to read and write words and simple sentences related to the weather.

Digital Technologies

This term, our Year 3 and 4 students are using their computers and the coding program Scratch to become creative animators and programmers. This challenges students to move beyond simple icons and begin using text-based coding blocks to control motion, sound, and character costumes.

Students will spend the first half of the term mastering technical skills—such as navigating the X and Y coordinate system and using loops to create fluid movement—before creating their own animated story. Throughout this process, they are developing essential computational thinking skills, learning how to break complex stories down into small, logical steps, and debugging their code when things don't go quite as planned.

Physical Education 

This term, the focus for PE is on moving from individual skills to small sided games. The goal is to understand that passing to a teammate is often more effective than running alone.

• Week 1-3: Evasion & Defensive Positioning. Using side-steps and "shadowing" to prevent an opponent from passing.
• Week 4-6: Maintaining Possession. Students play 3 verses 1 or 4 verses 2 style keep-away games. Focusing on "triangles" and passing lanes to maintain possession.
• Week 7-10: Modified Invasion Games. Games like Endzone or Line Soccer where the rules are simplified but the "invasion" goal is clear.
