Geography: Diversity of Places and Environments - Functions of the Environment

This term, we are becoming global explorers as we study the amazing features of our world! The students will be learning about the major divisions of the Earth, such as the equator, the North and South Poles, and the different hemispheres. We will practice using compass directions and explore how the round Earth is flattened out onto different types of maps to help us find our way across continents and oceans.

We will also be looking at the world’s climates, comparing Australia’s unique weather patterns, like our dry deserts and Mediterranean-style coasts, to climates found in other parts of the world. Beyond just the weather, we’ll investigate why natural environments (like forests and rivers) are so vital to the survival of both people and animals, comparing how we use these resources in Australia versus other continents.

Finally, we are focusing on Sustainability, which is all about being "planet-friendly." The children will explore how we can better manage our natural resources and look at clever ways to handle waste so that we can keep our environment healthy for the future.
