Mathematics

This Term in Mathematics, we will be learning how to collect categorical data and numerical data in tables. Students will then learn how to represent the data that they have collected in column graphs and pictographs. Students will be drawing on their knowledge of Addition and Subtraction strategies and learn how to apply these to solve worded problems. Students will apply the C.U.B.E.S strategy as per below to assist them in understanding the elements of a worded problem.
We will be continuing to develop students' recall of multiplication facts to 10. Students will extend their multiplication skills and apply them to division, beginning to understand that multiplication is the inverse of division. We will then begin working on our learning of Area and Perimeter. Students will be learning how to use rules and tape measures to calculate the perimeter (outside) of a shape as well as the area (inside) of a shape. Once students have an understanding of the concepts of how to calculate area and perimeter, we will begin to learn about angels and how to calculate the degrees of each of the angle types.
Home learning tasks for Maths will be posted to Compass each week. These home learning tasks will assist students in consolidating their knowledge of mathematical concepts taught in the classroom.
