In Writing this term, students will learn to write a factual recount. The purpose of a factual recount is to inform the reader, present accurate facts and information about events in chronological order. Students will learn that common formats of a factual recount may include newspaper article, journal entry, news report on the television or radio, historical recount of a significant event of a biographic event. Students will further develop their understanding of the structure of a factual recount that includes an Introduction, Paragraphs and a Conclusion. At the sentence level, students will be learning about adverbs, adjectives, and how to expand sentences. Identifying and writing compound and complex sentences using conjunctions ‘because, but, so’. 

 

In Spelling, students will focus on ‘soft c and g rule’, ck/k/c rule and que for /k/. Students will focus on suffixes -al, -able, -ous/-ious and prefixes in-, en-, em-, sub-, de-.
