Farewell to Our Club President – Neil Connan

As the 2025 season comes to a close, we take a moment to thank Neil for his exceptional service to the Mazenod Hockey Club. Neil has been a dedicated committee member since 2018 and has served as Club President for the past three years — 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Over the last eight years, Neil has devoted countless weekends to attending games, coaching our 7/8s and 9/10s teams, driving the boarders’ bus and nurturing players and watching them grow along their Mazenod hockey journey.

Under his leadership, the club has achieved the following milestones:

2023: Led the first hockey tour since COVID, taking Mazenod to Brisbane, where the team returned undefeated.

2024: Curtin University Hockey: Oversaw our joining with Curtin Uni Hockey, opening new pathways for our players.

Every Mazenod Hockey team at Curtin Uni Hocky club reached their Grand Finals for the first time in Mazenod Hockey club’s history, with two premiership flags secured.

2025: Neil was instrumental in guiding Mazenod Hockey as part of Curtin University Hockey, ensuring our boys teams remained well-organised with balls, goalie equipment, and managers’ bags — helping players, coaches and volunteers navigate the transition smoothly.

Thank you, Neil - your contributions will continue to inspire for seasons to come!

This year also marked a significant milestone in the growth of our club with the strengthening of our partnership with Curtin University Hockey Club, providing new opportunities, resources and pathways for our players. This collaboration reflects the ongoing commitment of Mazenod Hockey to enhance the experience for all players, nurture talent and continue building a strong, thriving hockey community.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Your dedication, support and passion continue to make Mazenod Hockey a source of pride and enjoyment for players, families and the wider school community. Best wishes to all for another successful, rewarding and enjoyable season in 2026.

Having served on the Mazenod Hockey Committee since 2018, this edition also marks my final newsletter contribution after eight wonderful years with the club. It has been a true privilege to share the highlights, achievements and memorable moments of our teams, and to witness the growth, determination and camaraderie of our players over the years.

Watching our players grow, sharing laughs and being part of this wonderful community has been incredibly rewarding - Thank you, Mazenod Hockey!
