Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and Friends of Mazenod College,

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house" (Matthew 5: 15).

Albeit now two weeks into Term 4, I extend a very warm welcome to all students, staff and families for this, the final term of the year and I hope everyone has had the opportunity to spend some precious time with family and friends over the break.

Term 4 is a special time in the school year. Whilst students and teachers probably think that assessments are a predominant exercise, there are also a host of incredible events, reviews and reflections, programs reach their culmination, and we start planning and preparing for 2026. In the case of our students, there is also the opportunity to celebrate achievements and to start looking ahead to the next stage of their learning journey.

This is true for all students, none more so that our current Year 12 cohort, for whom, formal classes have now concluded and the next stage of their learning journey is a vastly different one. I chose the Gospel reference above from Matthew on the occasion of the Graduation of our Year 12 students, with a number of events having been celebrated this week in their honour. The theme of our celebrations closely align with this acclamation as we too encourage our students to go forth from Mazenod College and live a life fully of light and good in the world – leaving “nothing undared for the kingdom of God”.

I take this opportunity to reiterate a message from my address at our Graduation Assembly this morning in thanking the staff, parents and families, friends and fellow students who have played such an important role in helping our Year 12 students get to this point today. We hope that an education at Mazenod College is a privileged time for our students, filled with wonderful learning experiences in all aspects of their development and many highlights to remember.

I wish our Year 12 students and their families continued blessings, thank them for the wonderful contributions and for the positive chapter they, and their families, have written in the long and proud history of our school. I particularly acknowledge those families who finish their direct association with Mazenod College. I trust that your journey with the College has been a rewarding time.

I trust, that the environment of preparation our young men have received at Mazenod College will see them graduate having learnt, who and what “…they are in the eyes of God”. I hope the next stage of their learning journey is a lifelong one, that shines brightly for them and, for all those they encounter along the way.

God bless.

“Best use of the amount of talents the Lord has allotted to him” (St Eugene De Mazenod).
