From the Rector

Dear Mazenodian Community,
I sincerely hope that you all had a great break from the regularity of school life and that there has been a smooth return into our last term for 2025.
Over the break and into the first week, I travelled alongside Mr Damian Wallis and Mr Liam Mallon to Vietnam to do the groundwork necessary to bring students in 2026. It would be our intention to offer to Year 10-12 an opportunity for a mission immersion to experience the Oblate Ministries in both Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
It was a wonderful experience to be a part of our Oblate de Mazenod Family in Vietnam and to get to know them prior to our visit next year. Please keep an eye out over the next few weeks to see if this might be of interest to your son/s and family.
Upon return, I was very happy to represent the College at the Narrogin Agricultural Show with Mr Brett Scarey and it was a great reminder that Mazenod is a College for the whole state. We have families from that region but there are also many outstanding options for families to consider as well.
I very much enjoyed highlighting the unique character traits of Mazenod Boarding and found that there certainly was interest from families with what we offer. Our community, location, faith expression, facilities, discipline and accessible fees all make a difference in the decision making process. Mazenod College was the only school from outside Narrogin in attendance and this was important for families as well.
This week will see the graduation rituals for our Year 12 students and their families and I sincerely hope that these are wonderful and positive occasions of grace and gratitude. I give thanks to all of the families, staff, Oblates and Old Boys who have contributed to the boys’ journey at Mazenod. Also importantly I offer a prayer and blessing for each of our graduates. We ask, like St Eugene asked, that each student “learn who they are in the eyes of God”. I am extremely confident that as they continue to learn who they are that they will discover so many strengths, positive character traits and areas of challenge and growth.
It’s not just the Year 12s for whom we hold this invitation and hope. We hold it four our entire community, especially those reading this sentence now.
The month of November is traditionally the month our Catholic Christian community prays for people who have died. Our Old Boys Requiem Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday November 1 at 5:30pm in the College Chapel. This is a sad, but very beautiful and meaningful celebration of the best of our culture. For Christians, death is a comma, not a full stop.
Take Care and God Bless
Fr Michael Twigg OMI
Rector of Mazenod College
