Boarding Life

Celebrating Boarders' Week

Boarders' Week provides a special opportunity to recognise and honour the diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives our boarders bring to the life of the College. In addition, it is also a time for gratitude for the many academic, cultural, sporting and co-curricular opportunities that being a Loreto Boarder provides.

Throughout the week, our girls participated in a range of activities designed to acknowledge not only boarding itself, but also the friendships, connection and community that make boarding life so unique.

We started the week with the annual Day Students vs Boarders Netball Match, a long-standing tradition and fierce rivalry. Legend has it the boarders have won for more years than can be remembered, meaning the pressure was certainly on for our Year 12 girls representing Boarding this year — and they did not disappoint.

On Tuesday, Head Boarder Madeleine helped lead the Boarders Week Assembly, where the joy of boarding was on display for all. One of the highlights each year is the creation of our Regional Displays, large collaborative posters filled with photographs, stories and reflections from the places our boarders call home. The displays remind us of the strong connection our girls maintain with their families and hometowns, whether from across the State, the nation, or international waters. During Boarders' Week, these displays were showcased at the Boarders' Week Assembly and in the windows of the Senior School staff room for the wider College community to enjoy, before returning to their permanent home within the Boarding House.

On Wednesday, the boarders gathered for fireside s’mores and hot chocolates before welcoming teachers for breakfast the following morning. The breakfast provided a lovely opportunity for girls to thank teachers and staff for the support, encouragement, and care they provide to boarders each day, both inside and outside the classroom. It was also wonderful to see our boarders proudly leading tours of the house. We are incredibly grateful to the many staff who attended and who continue to help our regional and remote students feel connected, known and supported within the College community.

We rounded out the week with our annual fundraising cupcake stall and sausage sizzle in support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, with many thanks to the Events Team for their support.

Boarders' Week is ultimately a celebration of community, recognising not only where our girls come from, but also the friendships and relationships that make Loreto Boarding House so special.
