Term 2 Information
SACSSGSA are currently in the process of regrading sports teams and will release the fixtures for the remainder of the season at the beginning of Week 8. The draws will be emailed to all teams and placed on Loreto Connect once they are finalised.
Melbourne Netball Trip
Congratulations to our Year 8/9 students who proudly represented Loreto Marraytville last week. The students travelled to Melbourne to take part in the inaugural Loreto Shield Competition, playing in eight netball matches against other Loreto schools from across Australia.
The girls played some outstanding netball, winning four of the eight games, with several matches being very closely contested. In addition to enjoying the high level of competition, the students also valued the opportunity to build connections with students from other Loreto schools and to tour Loreto Toorak.
Reconciliation Round
This week (Round 5 – Week 6) is the Reconciliation Round in the SACSSGSA and IGSSA competitions.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change. The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long. Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
SACSSGSA will be recognising National Reconciliation Week throughout sporting fixtures scheduled between May 27 – May 30, coinciding with National Reconciliation Week 2026.
For this round, students were encouraged to wear red, black or yellow ribbons or socks in support of the Reconciliation Round. Our netball teams will wear commemorative Reconciliation bibs, and we will also acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land on which Loreto College Maryatville is situated.

Cross Country
Over the past month, many Loreto students from Years 4 to 12 have proudly represented the school in the SAAS Cross Country competitions. If your daughter enjoys running or is keen to boost her fitness, she is welcome to join our Monday morning training sessions from 7:30am to 8:15am or take part in the weekly Wednesday races.
We would especially love to see a strong Loreto turnout on Wednesday 10 June, when we have the honour of hosting the event.
If you would like further information about our running program, please feel free to contact Sophie Hage - Sophie.Hage@loreto.sa.edu.au

Student Achievements
Congratulations to Year 7 student Grace-Marieon her recent selection in the 12 and under Touch Football SA State Team. Such a wonderful achievement! We wish her all the best as she prepares for the championships to be held in Newcastle in October.
Our Year 12 student Jasmine proudly represented her club at the 2026 Gymnastics South Australia State Championships last weekend, delivering an outstanding performance. Jasmine claimed gold on both beam and floor, as well as an impressive third place overall in the all-around competition.
Balancing the demands of Year 12 studies and her role as Sport Captain for Barry House, Jasmine’s dedication and achievement are truly commendable. She now looks ahead to the Australian Gymnastics Championships in Sydney at the end of June. We wish her the very best as she prepares for the national stage!
Congratulations to Year 12 students Minnie and Poppy, who have been selected to represent School Sport SA in the Girls Under 18 Football (Soccer) State Team. This is a fantastic achievement, and we wish them every success.

Year 2 Netball
One of the first opportunities for students at Loreto to represent the College in competitive sport is through our Year 2 summer netball teams.
After years of watching older students and older siblings run around on the court, in Term 4 our Year 2s will be unleashed. We play in the Eastern Districts Netball Association’s Friday night competition against surrounding schools. The Year 2s play under “Netta” rules with lower ring heights and smaller netballs. The key focus areas are developing skills, learning the rules and having fun!
Our Year 2s will have a chance to have some training sessions at the end of Term 3, to help them prepare for the Term 4 competition. All families will be sent registration information shortly.
Thank You, Matilda!
A huge thank you to Matilda Garrett from the Adelaide Thunderbirds who has run training sessions this term with our junior school netball teams. The sessions have been a lot of fun, and it’s been great to see our coaches incorporate some of the games and warm up activities into their trainings.
Golden Run
Our Year 4 Gold soccer team has had a great start to Term 2, winning all four matches and are yet to concede a goal:
- Round 1 Winners 5-0
- Round 2 Winners 17-0
- Round 3 Winners 12-0
- Round 4 Winners 8-0
A rare undefeated term is on the cards if they can negotiate around the Loreto Hawaiian-themed Disco later this term!
Basketball Achievement
Well done to Rosha V (6 Blue) who won a silver medal with her Norwood Flames Under 12 basketball team at the State Championships last week! Congratulations, Rosha, to you and your team, and many thanks to Shima for these photos!
Student Achievements and Performances
If your daughter is involved in a sport or activity outside of Loreto that you would like to share, please send details through to Ben.Johnswood@loreto.sa.edu.au.
This could be club sport or dance, calisthenics, gymnastics, swimming, chess, surf lifesaving, horse riding, athletics, surfing, cycling, skateboarding, taekwondo, Lego building… basically any activity you can think of! We would love to be able to recognise their performances in our newsletter. It’s also great for other girls to see all the different activities that are out there and they might see something they’d like to try.

We are so proud of Chloe’s dedication and perseverance and thrilled to see her talents recognised on the state stage. As Chloe’s family shared, they are deeply grateful for the supportive environment at Loreto, which has helped nurture Chloe’s confidence and resilience to dream big and pursue her goals both in and out of the classroom.
Congratulations, Chloe, we wish you every success at Nationals!
Adding to an already exciting term of achievements, Chloe also recently won the exhibition component of the Police Credit Union Kids’ and Youth Art Competition!
