Are you going to the Disco?

This was the question echoing among Year 7 and 8 students last week.  As the disco approached, the Year 7s affectionately renamed the event the Saxe Blue ‘Social’ and they were absolutely right. The evening was much more than just a disco. It was an exciting gathering of friends featuring matching outfits and opportunities to connect, meet new friends, and showcase signature dance moves.

While my typical fun Friday night usually involves relaxing on the couch with a good movie and an early bedtime, our vibrant girls reminded me of the important role social connections play in our wellbeing. Attending the Saxe Blue ‘Social’ beautifully highlighted the joy that comes from being connected to others and being part of a community.

One of the most encouraging aspects of the night was watching the Year 12 leaders support our younger students with such warmth and approachability. They modelled respectful relationships beautifully, encouraging connection, conversation and open dance circles throughout the night. Who would have thought Year 12 students would lead a conga line with such infectious energy?

The Saxe Blue Disco is an event that not only strengthens friendships but also creates lasting memories. These experiences play an important role in developing a sense of belonging among our students and enhancing the positive peer culture at Loreto.
