Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY

Just a reminder that next Monday 31 August is a Staff Development Day. The School will be closed on this day.

BUNNINGS BBQ

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help with this fundraising initiative at Bunnings Kirrawee THIS Saturday.

I would encourage everyone to pop down on Saturday and buy a sausage sandwich as all money raised will be used to purchase resources for our students.

RAFFLE PRIZES NEEDED

Our School's major fundraiser for the year, the COLOUR CRAZE, will take place early in Term 4.

Our Parent Fundraising Committee are looking for major prizes for the raffle and have contacted numerous local businesses for support.

If you or a member of your family has a business that can donate a prize please forward your details to our School Office at info@stpsutherland.catholic.edu.au.

All businesses that donate to this raffle will receive advertising space in our fortnightly Newsletter throughout Term 4.

BOOK FAIR

Thank you to everyone who supported our Book Fair last week. Our School is so fortunate to have a community that highly values reading and books. Special thanks to Mrs Wainwright and all the staff who supported her to make this such a success.

SCHOOL OF ST JUDE IN TANZANIA

Last Term, as you are aware, our School held a gold coin day to support this Catholic School in Africa.

In response to your generosity, the School sent us a short video to say thank you, and show our students what life is like at St Jude's.

To watch the video click here.

Our School Captains are currently in the process of producing a short video to show them what life is like here at St Patrick's.

NAPLAN RESULTS

Below is a snapshot of both the Year 3 and the Year 5 results from the NAPLAN tests held earlier this year.

YEAR 3

Reading

School: 441.1  System: 441  State: 409.7  Statistically Similar Schools: 435.8

Writing

School: 448.7  System: 451  State:  421.2  Statistically Similar Schools: 442.3

Numeracy

School:442.2  System:438.9  State: 408.8  Statistically Similar Schools: 431.1

Spelling

School: 452.6  System: 445.2  State: 417.2  Statistically Similar Schools: 435.3

Grammar and Punctuation

School: 466.3  System: 457  State: 419.6  Statistically Similar Schools: 450.2

The Year 3 results are particularly pleasing when compared to both the State and Statistically Similar Schools, and validates the work that has been done in the early years with the introduction of the new syllabuses, and the teacher professional development that has been provided both by the School and Sydney Catholic Schools.

YEAR 5

Reading

School: 515   System: 517.6   State: 492.1   Statistically Similar Schools: 516.3

Writing

School: 511.8   System: 520.6   State: 486.9   Statistically Similar Schools: 515.4

Numeracy

School: 519   System: 526.5   State: 501.2   Statistically Similar Schools: 518.1

Spelling

School: 520.9   System: 517.8   State: 498   Statistically Similar Schools:  513

Grammar and Punctuation

School: 535.2   System: 537.5   State: 506.8   Statistically Similar Schools: 530.8

As a School while we were pleased with the results achieved, overall,  by the Year 5 cohort particularly in Numeracy, Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation, we are looking at why the Reading and Writing results were not as high as we would have liked. However, when looking at the growth between Year 3 and Year 5 in Reading and Writing, these students' results were on par with the Sydney Catholic School's average and significantly higher than the State average.

Kind regards,

Steve Darcy (Principal)
