A warm welcome back to everyone after the mid-year holiday break!

Last week, students in Year 3 and Year 5 received their individual reports for the NAPLAN tests that they completed in Term 1. NAPLAN allows parents and carers to see how their child has performed in literacy and numeracy against national standards. Your child’s achievement can be compared to the national average of all students in the same year and against the proficiency levels.

The proficiency standards include 4 proficiency levels: 

Exceeding: The student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing. 

Strong: The student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing. 

Developing: The student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing. 

Needs additional support: The student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily. 

Page 4 of the individual student report provides a more detailed summary about what students know and can do within each of the proficiency levels. Results can help you to discuss your child's progress with their teacher, alongside other school assessment reports. 

For students in Year 5, it is strongly recommended that they keep their NAPLAN report, as often high schools ask for a copy as part of their enrolment process. 

All schools have been informed that the NAPLAN 2026 national report, including state and national data, is expected to be released in August. This information is helpful when identifying strengths and areas of need in teaching programs and for setting goals in literacy and numeracy for individual schools but also for school systems, like MACS, to review programs and support offered to schools.
