Scene of the Crime Excursion

From close to home in Clifton Hill to Bourke Street in the CBD, tragedy struck the community at a time where crimes were often underreported. Each crime was similar and yet so different. But what was the common factor? They all occurred in Melbourne. On Monday a group of us from year eight and nine went on an excursion to some of Melbourne’s most famous crime scenes. The more we found out about each felony the more we wanted to know. We learnt about some of Melbourne’s most infamous criminals and the disturbing yet incredibly interesting crimes they committed. We started our tour off with Julian Knight and the Hoddle Street massacre (parents I’m sure some of you remember this one!) then went to see where the Salt nightclub killings, Russell Street bombing and many more crimes happened while discovering more about the people who did them. It felt so different to hear and learn about things that happened in the past while actually being at the scene of the crime rather than sitting in a classroom. Most of the locations we went were places you go on a casual Saturday. You would never even think that something terrible had happened here. Thank you to Rainer for doing deep dives into each case to learn as much as possible before sharing it all to us, it made the tour so engaging and fun while still being very educational. It was an amazing experience and was very eye opening to things that have happened in the streets we walk every day.
