Year 3 Waste Audit
Last Friday, the Year 3 students gathered together to sort out waste from several of our bins around the school. We were shocked to find the amount of items in the bins that we could compost or recycle! By the end of the sorting, the amount of actual rubbish was very low.
Huge thank you to Cindy and Ashlee from the Eastern Alliance for Sustainability Learning (EASL) for their assistance and guidance in our rubbish sort and their informative talk to the students prior to and after our waste audit.
Victorian Container Deposit Scheme
The scheme rewards Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return. Most aluminium, glass, plastic and carton drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible. Keep the lids on, they are recycled too!
The scheme benefits the community, environment and economy by delivering:
- more and better recycling
- less waste - old containers become new ones
- less litter
- new jobs and economic opportunities
- opportunities for charities and schools to raise funds
