Leader's Day

Last Thursday, all the Year 6 Captains and Leaders had the opportunity to teach a class in the school. Students played some exciting games outside, listened to a story and even made an origami frog! Well done to all of the students who were involved, particularly those who stepped up at the last minute and truly embodied that you can in fact lead without a badge. Thank you to Mrs Prentice for another fantastic day; providing our students with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and encouraging a connection with all the students and teachers at Vermont Primary School!

Indonesian Day

On Monday 20th November, Vermont Primary School will be celebrating Indonesian Day! Students are encouraged to dress up in the colours of the Indonesian flag (white and red) and will be participating in different activities based on the Indonesian culture and customs. One of these activities involve food - so please ensure you have read the email from your child's teacher and get in contact with them if you are wanting your child to opt out from the food experience.

Cricket Regional Finals

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Cricket team who recently competed in the Eastern Region Championships. A terrific day with the bat and in the field resulted in VPS qualifying for the final. Although our boys fell just short of qualifying for the State Finals, we are really proud of their efforts. A special thank you to their amazing coach, Mr Walsh!

Grade 6 IMAX Excursion

On Monday, the Year 6 students journeyed into the city to watch short films about Extreme Weather and Volcanoes. Thank you to the parent helpers who came along. The Year 6s had a great day!

Year 6 Bike Education Program

Our Bike Education Program is in full swing! There are two more sessions at school, taking place on Friday 25th November and Friday 1st December. Then on Friday 8th December we have the Bike Hike to Bayswater Park! There will be more information about this day in the next couple of weeks.

‘Vermont Views’ School Magazine

The Vermont Views magazine is available for purchase on Qkr! This is a great keepsake of 'the year that was' and a fun way to track your child's journey through their school years. This year we have decided to include a signatures page, where students can have their magazines signed by their friends. This keepsake is selling for $12.50. Hurry so you don’t miss out, as it closes on Thursday 30th November!

Literature Circles

This term, the Year 5 and 6 students have been participating in Literature Circles. Here, students have been having rich conversations, making observations and sharing their wonderings about the shared-texts that they have been reading. It has been wonderful to see our students take responsibility to keep up with their assigned readings and prepare themselves for group discussions by fulfilling their roles.

Here is a photo of some students from 5LS who read and finished the text 'Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.' Kiara, as the role of the 'Creator', made a string of paper cranes to represent the end of the story. Well done!

Interrelate

All Year 5 and Year 6 classes started their Interrelate sessions this week. Please chat to your child about what was discussed.

Year 7 Transition

Yesterday, the Year 6s spent some time looking at the requirements for high school and had a chance to have all their questions answered. Parents may like to listen to the following podcast from the ABC for tips to help your child prepare for next year.

Year 5 & Year 1 Buddy Sessions!

Our Year 5 students were very excited to help their Year 1 buddies create their Water Cycle dioramas. Thank you to the Year 1 students for trusting your buddies to help you with your amazing creations! They had so much fun.

Year 6 Graduation - Dress Code and Mobile Phones

This is a reminder about the expected dress codes with the students for the upcoming Year 6 Graduation on Wednesday 13th December. Students should be dressed in appropriate clothing for the evening and wear something they will be comfortable in for the dance and ceremony. Students have typically chosen to wear neat, semi-formal clothing, such as collared shirts, slacks and dresses that reflect this as a special occasion.

Parents are welcome to bring phones to photograph/film the ceremony but are kindly reminded to not publish photos of any children other than their own, on social media or any other digital format.

Students are welcome to bring their own devices to take photos outside Box Hill Town Hall, however we ask parents to remind them of the above expectation. Students are asked to hand their phone to parents once they enter the building.

Christmas on the Lawn

This year, we are very excited to announce that "Christmas on the Lawn" will be occurring on Friday the 15th of December. All families are invited to join us from 4:00pm to 5:30pm to watch each year level perform a song. You're more than welcome to bring a picnic rug, some nibbles and enjoy this festive evening! More information will be coming soon, so keep a look out for it!
