Co-Curricular

As we reach the end of Term 3, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the energy, commitment and school spirit that have been so evident across our Co-Curricular Program. This has been my first term at the College, and one of the most pleasing observations has been the genuine passion that exists for St Patrick’s College among staff, parents and students. That passion is a great strength, and it also provides an exciting opportunity for us to lean into what is possible when each of us contributes just a little beyond what is easy.

Congratulations to our Athletics Team on a wonderful season and, in particular, to those students who won events and broke records throughout the campaign. A special congratulations to the 11 students competing at the CIS event this week, having qualified due to their performances at last week’s ISA Athletics Carnival. We also celebrate a wonderful result from the Opens 4 x 100m Relay team, who took out the main event with three Year 11 students and one Year 10 student; things are looking very promising for 2027. Finally, congratulations to Jack R, who broke the ISA triple jump record with a jump of 12.9m. Amazing!

Thank you also to all students, families, coaches and staff for the positive way we have transitioned into the summer sporting season. Basketball, Baseball, Cricket and Touch Football are now in full swing, and it has been pleasing to see our students embrace new routines, teams and opportunities with enthusiasm and pride. Best of luck to all involved in holiday fixtures over the coming weeks.

I also had the privilege of being invited into the audience for the Year 11 Drama Showcase. The monologues, written and performed by our boys, were an impressive display of talent, courage and creativity. More than that, they were another reminder that co-curricular experiences build resilience and test students beyond the classroom. Whether on the stage, on the field, in debate, music, service or leadership, these opportunities prepare young people for the wider world and for the challenges and possibilities that lie ahead.

At present, the majority of our students aim to meet the minimum expectations for co-curricular participation. That is a sound foundation; however, what might be possible was clearly on display at the ISA Athletics Carnival last week. Had we participated in all events and simply “turned up”, our overall result would have pushed us very close to the overall victory. As mentioned earlier, school pride and passion are very evident in the words spoken at assemblies and end-of-season presentation nights, but the big test is turning up, walking the talk, and displaying the actions that those words represent. Perhaps next year, our A-level Rugby and Football players may further boost the school’s outcomes, working together with our Athletics students to help achieve a long-desired athletics title. I am very much looking forward to what is possible when we all get involved and push for outcomes of which we can be proud.
