Religious Education

 Our Religious Education units for this term are:

Scripture and Jesus - Bible Images of God 

This unit introduces and explores Biblical images of God that help us know and discover God. Students will become familiar with the different images of God in the Old Testament through the Psalms and the prophets. They will also explore the image of God as a loving Father through the Gospels. The unit also explores the Genesis account of creation with an emphasis on every person being made in God’s image and likeness. 

D2 Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments - The Sacrament of Penance 

This unit reflects on the human experience of forgiving others and being forgiven. The parable of the Prodigal Son is presented and explored. It presents God as loving and forgiving. The unit explores the concept of reconciliation and living together in peace. Students identify times when they have made good and bad choices, and the consequences of these choices. It introduces the Sacrament of Penance, exploring how the Catholic community celebrates reconciliation with God and one another.

You can help your child by:

• Encouraging simple daily prayers with your child

• Attending Mass regularly with your child

English

This term, the students will deepen their understanding of perspective and argument through a study of fractured fairy tales. They will explore how arguments can be presented from different perspectives and use extended text features to enhance their writing. Students will compose persuasive texts that present a different perspective from the traditional fairy tale. Texts will include The True Story of the Three Little Pigs written by John Scieszka, traditional fairy tales such as The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk.

Students will build on their understanding of how cultures and traditions can be represented in texts. They will engage with texts that depict real and imagined representations of significant people from various cultures and backgrounds. Students will explore how cultural representations can be shared through creative visual features through a variety of texts.

You can assist your child by:

• Listening to them read nightly and asking them to retell what they have read in their own words. This is essential for comprehension. Also, ask some literal and inferential questions about the text to ensure they have understood what they have read.

• Checking their spelling words during homework and encouraging them to use the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check strategy. 

Mathematics

The students will be explicitly taught concepts from the NSW Mathematics K-10 Syllabus with a focus on problem-solving, communication, reasoning and understanding. All activities are differentiated in order to cater to all student needs and abilities.

The topics taught in Term 3 are: Representing Whole Numbers, 2D Spatial Structure, Geometric Measure - Position, Length, and Data.

You can assist your child by:

• Revising counting skills (e.g. counting by 2's, 5's and 10's from any given three digit number or by 100’s from any 3 digit number)

• Rounding 2 and 3 digit numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. For e.g. 26 rounded to the nearest 10 is 30. 

• Revising how to solve simple addition and subtraction problems involving one- and two-digit numbers using a range of efficient mental and written strategies including the jump strategy and split strategy.

• Go shopping! Notice prices, which is more/less, how much altogether

• Play games involving money and trade money eg. coins for notes, notes for coins, coins for coins.

• Cook and measure quantities noticing litre and millilitres.

Science and Technology

The Science unit this term is called 'Physical World' and will focus on the identification of light, sound and heat energy, and how they are sensed and produced. The students will further develop their understanding of forces and energy and how these can be used for specific purposes in products. The Digital Technologies strand focuses on digital systems and their components.

History

The unit this term is called "The Past in the Present". The students will explore, recognise and appreciate the history of their local area by examining remains of the past and considering why they should be preserved. They will identify and describe significant people, events, places, sites and changes in the local community over time. They will also investigate the effects of changing technology on people’s lives.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

In Sport, students will continue to develop fundamental movement skills through a range of invasion, target, and striking/fielding games. They will practise skills such as kicking, passing, dribbling, aiming, striking, rolling, and catching through modified games including soccer, basketball, and tee-ball. Through engaging individual, partner, and team activities, students will build coordination, spatial awareness, teamwork, confidence, and positive attitudes towards lifelong physical activity. 

In our Open Parachute lessons, students will be exploring the concepts of Friendship Challenges, Making Safe Choices & the importance of Being Brave.

Creative Arts

In Music with Mr Parlato, students will explore the concept of Push and Pull through dance. They will investigate how force, energy, attraction, repulsion, connection, and disconnection can be expressed through movement. Students will develop foundational dance skills including safe practice, spatial awareness, improvisation, sequencing, and group choreography.

In class, the students will engage in Visual Art lessons based on literature linked to Book Week 2026. In Year 2, students create artworks representing both real and imagined situations exploring a range of techniques and media. They will discuss qualities of artworks such as subject matter and technique, recognising that artists create artworks for different audiences.

Homework 

Homework will follow the same structure as Semester One. It is recommended that Year 2 students spend up to a duration of 20 - 30 minutes of homework per day. Homework consists of daily reading, spelling and Mathematics activities. This includes 10 minutes of reading every night. 

These activities are to be completed weekly. Homework is due each Thursday and will be sent home every Friday. Thank you for your partnership and support.

Important Dates for Year Two

Sport Day : 

Tuesdays and Wednesdays for ALL Year 2 classes 

Students are to wear their sports uniform on these days. 

Library : 

Each fortnight, students will have the opportunity to borrow books from our school library. Please ensure your child brings their Library Bag to school on their allocated day.

Library will take place on Wednesdays (even weeks) for all Year 2 classes.
