News from One/Two

Literacy
This week in literacy, we have been learning about the magic e! We have practiced the long a and i sound (a_e and i_e) as a split digraph. We learnt that when we add the magic e to some words it can change the way the a and i sounds.

We have also read our first class book for the year, ‘A Year on Our Farm’! Everyone Loved it!
Maths
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been becoming experts at collecting data and recording our results using tally marks. Tally marks help us count our data quickly as we know they are bundled in groups of 5!
Inquiry
Our first unit of Inquiry is focusing on exploring our identity. We have created concept maps of ourselves, including our families, friends, our talents, likes, and dislikes. We have also been exploring our skills and how we can take responsible risks to problem solve and try new things!
Religion
This week we had Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday - We learnt that Shrove Tuesday is the day before a special time called Lent. Lent is when some people choose to give something up or try extra hard to be kind and helpful before Easter.
Although on Tuesday most of us were at home, remote learning. A few 1/2 students ate some delicious pancakes thanks to Mr. Boyan at St Patrick's, on Tuesday afternoon!
PBL
I can do my best!
During our PBL lessons, we have been focusing on what it means to always try our best. The class brainstormed what this meant to us in our learning and friendships at school. Our class spent some time following a guided drawing, this reminded us that if the learning was going to fast we pause, take a deep breath and rewind the video that was giving us the steps to follow.
It was great to see everyone supporting one another with this tricky task.
Upcoming Dates!
Whole School Welcome BBQ - Thursday 26th Feb, 5pm - 7pm
Thanks,
Tilly
