Year 4 Update

Learning Outlook for Weeks 6 & 7
🧠 Maths
This week we introduced our new division topic. We have been testing different division strategies, with a focus on using halving to solve problems and understanding how place value helps us when dividing by 10. Students are learning to explain their thinking and show how these strategies can be applied in different situations.
📚 English
We have been focusing on spelling patterns using ti, si and ci, and practising how to join letters fluently to write full sentences in joint handwriting. We have been learning about similes and metaphors, identifying them in texts and then writing our own sentences that include these comparisons. Students have also reviewed sentence structure, learning how to recognise and write simple, compound, and complex sentences. To finish, students wrote a recount narrative about camp, drawing on their experiences to practise their writing skills.
Book Week
💬 SEL
We have been learning about values and respect, exploring how these shape both communities and individuals. They have identified our school values, discussed the importance of respect, and reflected on how values and respectful choices can positively impact relationships and communities.
🌏Humanities
We are continuing our Geography unit by exploring climate and vegetation. They have described the climate and vegetation of their chosen country using topic-specific vocabulary and structured their writing into paragraphs with subheadings. We have also looked at Africa and South America, identifying the climate and vegetation zones of these continents and learning how they differ across regions.
Year 4 2025 Phillip Island Camp
Last week, our Year 4 students had an unforgettable adventure at camp! Over three days, students participated in a range of exciting activities, including the Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Archery, Low Ropes, Camp Cooking, and a Photo Hunt challenge. We were so proud to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, taking on new challenges, and showing incredible resilience and teamwork. Camp was also a wonderful opportunity for students to build friendships, support one another, and share lots of laughs along the way.
A huge thank you to the staff who supported students throughout camp, and to the students for embracing every opportunity with such enthusiasm.
Here are some highlights from our time away!!
