Main Campus - Year 4
Hello Lovely Year 4 Families,
What a fabulous couple of weeks we’ve had! 4BE and 4KR started their first week of activities last week and it went amazingly well. THANK YOU to the parents who volunteered their time to run the activities. Without you, it’s not possible. The students' feedback was amazing and they all thoroughly enjoyed it! They completed things they haven’t done before, such as quilling, making birds-eyes with wool, cooking pumpkin soup (YUM) from the pumpkins in the garden, nature sketching and making mobiles from shells.
In very exciting news, last Thursday we introduced another new member to the Carlsruhe animal family. She is a gorgeous little albino guinea pig who the students voted will be named Coconut. Ginger is already cosying up to her new housemate and they both seem happy to have each other.
The students have been busy writing persuasive letters on what to name the 6 new chickens. They then each had to vote and each class named 2 chickens. The names we have decided on are: Figgy, Corn, Waffles, Scar, Mrs Bean and Peanut. We are still unsure as to how to tell them apart, but will have to study them hard as they all look VERY similar.
In Literacy, we have been learning how to write a persuasive paragraph using the TEEL format. Students have been reading and practising writing paragraphs using this method. They have also been looking into high modality wording to ensure their writing is powerful.
In Maths, our focus has continued with multiplication; however, this week students have been learning about surface area using informal and formal measurements. Students continue to work on recalling multiplication facts up to 10 × 10 with accuracy and fluency. We are also working on developing efficient mental and written strategies for solving problems with larger numbers without using a calculator. Students can also practise this at home using timestable.com and the link is on Google Classroom.
On Tuesday afternoon, 4KR had a visit from the lovely Nicole from the North Central CMA. They will be the River detectives for Term 3 and had a practise at most of the testing, under guidance from Nicole. The students tested water from the Campaspe River. They tested the temperature, turbidity, ph level and salt levels. We are happy to report that the river is currently healthy! Thanks to Nicole for giving up her time, and the students learned about the importance of our waterways.
As a reminder, towards the end of this term, 4BE will transition back to main campus for the remainder of the year. This means 4AD head back out to Carlsruhe to join 4KR.
