Year 1/2 Unit
Time is flying by incredibly fast, and we are already approaching the halfway mark of the term. Our classrooms are buzzing with energy and curiosity, as the students are well and truly settled back into their weekly learning routines.
An Ocean of Creativity in Our Corridor
If you have walked through the Junior unit building this week, you have likely noticed our corridor undergoing an incredible sea change. Our main display has started to develop into a stunning underwater wonderland, featuring beautiful jellyfish creations handcrafted by our talented students.
Using repurposed plastic bags, the students have managed to capture the delicate, floating movement of these sea creatures. There was an absolute wave of surprise and awe when the children arrived at school and saw them on display for the first time. The bright colours and floating textures have turned our hallway into a true conversation starter, and we could not be prouder of our students' resourcefulness and artistic flair!
Deep Sea Discoveries at Sea Life Melbourne
The marine inspiration did not stop at the school gates! This week, our students embarked on an exciting excursion to the SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium. They enjoyed an immersive, guided tour around the centre, getting up close to some truly amazing marine life.
During the visit, our young explorers observed and spotted a spectacular range of ocean creatures, including:
Majestic sharks and gliding rays
Colourful sea-stars and pulsing jellyfish
Vibrant fish and spectacular seahorses
Graceful sea turtles, playful penguins, and the enormous saltwater crocodile!
Beyond the excitement of seeing the animals, this trip was a deeply educational experience. Students learned all about the vital conservation projects the centre is involved with to protect our oceans. They also discovered how to identify indicators of rising sea temperatures and discussed the significant impacts these changes have on fragile marine ecosystems.
Our students asked thoughtful, insightful questions throughout the excursion, showing a genuine curiosity for the natural world. They made us all incredibly proud by demonstrating our school values brilliantly, proving once again what fantastic ambassadors Woodend Primary students are.
