WEEK  2 | TERM 3

STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Dear Grade Three Families,

Welcome to Term 3! We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing two-week break. It has been wonderful to welcome the students back to school. They have settled into their routines quickly and have returned eager to learn.

We began the term by revisiting our school values, classroom expectations and practising the routines that help our classroom run smoothly.

📚 Reading

Students have been choosing 'just right' books from our classroom libraries and exploring the author's purpose. We have also been focusing on building reading stamina by increasing the amount of time students can read independently while remaining engaged with their texts.

✍️ Writing

Our writing sessions have been filled with recounts of the school holidays. Students have been learning to organise their ideas in chronological order and use time connectives such as first, next, then, and finally to sequence events clearly.

🔢 Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have revisited our expectations for presenting work neatly in our maths books while consolidating our understanding of place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through a variety of engaging games and hands-on activities.

🔍 Inquiry

This term, we have begun our new Biological Science unit, exploring the big question: How are living things connected? Students investigated the differences between living and non-living things before creating their own fossil imprints using natural materials such as leaves, shells, flowers and animal tracks pressed into salt dough.

🏕️ Year 3 Camp

Some of our Year 3 students have enjoyed an exciting adventure at Lake Dewar Discovery Camp this week. They have participated in activities including the giant flying fox, archery, making s'mores, a talent show and movie night, while building confidence, resilience and friendships along the way.

Students who remained at school have been busy strengthening their literacy and numeracy skills by practising summarising, writing imaginative narratives and completing a range of maths activities. They have also been developing their communication and collaboration skills through engaging team-building challenges.

Reminders

• Homework was sent home this week and is due back on Thursday 30 July.
• The yellow-highlighted activities are compulsory and should be completed by the due date. All other activities are optional but encouraged.
• Students are encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes each evening
• Please record this in their Reading Log and return it to school each Friday so books can be changed and reading logs checked.

We are looking forward to a wonderful Term 3 filled with exciting learning opportunities and memorable experiences.
