This term, our Grade 2 students have been learning the reading strategy of visualising. Visualising means creating pictures in our minds while we read by using the words in the text to imagine what is happening.
To be active readers, students are encouraged to think carefully about the characters, settings and events, using clues from the author to build images in their minds. This strategy helps readers stay engaged with the text, deepen their understanding of what they are reading, and helps them recall and summarise the text more easily.
Through visualising activities, discussions and drawing their mental images, students are strengthening their comprehension skills and learning that good readers actively think while they read. We are so proud of the enthusiasm and creativity our students have shown as they bring stories to life in their imagination!
