PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

As we move through another busy and rewarding term, I continue to be impressed by the enthusiasm of our students, the dedication of our staff and the unwavering support of our families and wider community. Every day I am learning more about our school and the community it serves, and it has been a privilege to discover the proud history of our school. Since opening its doors in 1954, the school has admirably served generations of local families, building a reputation for providing quality education and strong community connections. It is a legacy that we are proud to continue.

Our school values of resilience, respect, kindness and high expectations are evident in so many aspects of school life. Whether it is students challenging themselves in the classroom, supporting one another through extracurricular activities or representing the school in the community, these values continue to guide the way we learn and work together.

This week marks an exciting milestone for our Year 10 students. Many have recently returned from the Bogong Camp, where they demonstrated resilience, teamwork and perseverance while embracing the challenges of the outdoor environment. Thanks to the teachers who gave up their personal time to organise and lead the event that will leave a lasting positive memory for our Year 10 students. From all reports the students were excellent and highly engaged. Experiences such as this helps to develop confidence, leadership and lifelong memories, and I congratulate all students and staff involved in making the camp such a success.

As students begin to consider their future pathways, we acknowledge the efforts from teachers to plan and support the Year 10 Course Counselling on Tuesday 4 August. Pathway conversations between parents, teachers and students allow students and their families to explore senior secondary options, discuss career aspirations and make informed decisions about future learning pathways. I encourage all Year 10 families to engage fully in these conversations as we work together to support each student's goals and aspirations.

Improving student attendance continues to be a key priority for our school. It is pleasing to see our attendance data showing positive improvement, reflecting the collective efforts of students, families and staff. Year to date we are tracking better than this time last year where 35% of students attended 90% – 100% compared with year to date in 2026, of 47% of students attending 90% - 100%. One measure, is to NOT miss more than 5 days per term. So far, we are tracking to achieve the average attendance of 85.3% compared to 81.6% in 2025. Research consistently demonstrates that when students attend school regularly, they develop stronger connections with their peers, teachers and learning. This greater sense of belonging not only enhances wellbeing but also significantly improves the likelihood of positive learning outcomes and future success.

We understand that there are genuine reasons why students may need to be absent from school. However, it is important that all absences are accounted for and approved. If your child is absent, please contact the school as soon as possible so we can update our records and ensure the absence is appropriately approved. Your partnership in this process helps us maintain accurate attendance records while ensuring every student remains connected to their learning.

One of the many strengths of this community is the generosity and kindness shown towards others. Recently, this spirit was exemplified by Sue and Roger Jennings, who generously donated 200 clay targets to one of our students, Zac after reading about his sporting achievements in shooting. Their thoughtful contribution reflects the community-minded nature that has long been a hallmark of our school and local area. On behalf of the school, I sincerely thank Sue and Roger for their generosity and for supporting our young people to pursue their interests and achieve their personal best.

As we continue through the term, I look forward to getting to know more families and hearing the stories that make this school such a special place. Together, by continuing to foster resilience, respect, kindness and high expectations, we will ensure our students are supported to thrive both academically and personally.
