BOGONG SKI CAMP

DAY 1

After a pre-dawn start, our Bogong Ski Camp adventurers have safely arrived and settled in!

The group met their ski groups, enjoyed a delicious vegetarian dinner, and then got some well-earned rest before an exciting day on the trails .

Cross-country skiing awaits... bring on Day 2!

DAY 2

Despite temperatures hovering between -2.5°C and 0.5°C, our KSC students showed incredible resilience and determination on the slopes!

Students continued developing their cross-country skiing skills, tackling the cold with plenty of enthusiasm, a few spectacular spills, and lots of laughs along the way.

After a well-earned hearty dinner, everyone rested up and got ready for the next adventure as we head higher up the mountain for our first day of downhill skiing!

Hopefully the downhill runs are just as memorable - but with fewer falls!

DAY 3

First day of downhill skiing greeted us with frosty temperatures, fresh snow, and views so stunning they made the early wake-up call almost worth it. The drive to Falls Creek resembled a real-life snow globe, which may or may not have inspired several enthusiastic performances of Do You Want to Build a Snowman? Our students hit the slopes ready for action and quickly worked their way up to more challenging runs. With expert coaching from the Falls Creek and Bogong School instructors, they showed impressive progress throughout the day. The only thing moving faster than the skiers was the hot chocolate queue afterwards!

DAY 4

The weather gods were certainly smiling on us, delivering sunshine, fresh snow, and conditions that made Falls Creek look like it was straight out of a ski brochure. Armed with borrowed skis, questionable balance, and plenty of determination, our students charged onto the slopes. By the end of the day, many had evolved from nervous first-timers into parallel-turning speed machines who now believe they're only one good run away from the Winter Olympics. Along the way there were a few spills, some spectacular crashes, and several chair lift exits that won't be making anyone's highlight reel. But through every tumble, our students showed resilience, courage, and great humour, getting back up and giving it another go. Another fantastic day on the mountain, with plenty of laughs, great progress, and only a small number of arguments with gravity.

As well as developing their skiing skills, our students have been learning about alpine environmental issues, native flora and fauna, local First Nations peoples, and the importance of sustainability in these unique mountain environments. This evening, after a hard day of conquering the slopes (and occasionally being conquered by them), students settled in to watch Crossing the Ice. The documentary follows Australian adventurers James Castrission and Justin Jones as they attempt the seemingly impossible feat of skiing solo and unassisted across Antarctica to the South Pole and back.
