FROM GRASSROOTS TO GRAND CIRCUITS

On Wednesday, our Year 11 Work Related Skills students heard from Emily Caccaviello (Race Car Driver)  Leon Caccaviello (Emily's Dad) and Stacey Stewart (Technical & Management) about how they got into the world of motorsport.

Growing up in the Mallee, their weekends were all about local autocross events, where a hobby slowly turned into a real passion. What started out on dusty tracks with family and friends eventually led them into careers in motorsport.

Emily and Stacey both talked about the importance of just saying “yes” to opportunities, putting your hand up to help even if it is unpaid work, and getting experience wherever you can. Their message was simple: you don’t need to have everything figured out. Sometimes it’s just about starting with something you enjoy, working hard, and being willing to get involved.

The key take away messages for our students was about your attitude, how you present yourself, and your willingness to give things a go. Whether it’s work experience/ placement, a School-Based Apprenticeship, a job, or just exploring what’s next, a good impression can open many doors.

They also reminded students that hearing “no” is just a part of life, but don’t let it stop you. If something doesn’t work out, thank them and try the next opportunity. Staying positive, being persistent, and bouncing back really does make a difference.

Overall, their stories were a great reminder that big dreams can start small. From local autocross events to careers in motorsport, Emily and Stacey show that passion, hard work, volunteering and determination can take you a long way.
