The Season of Advent
Yesterday marked the first day of the Season of Advent. This is a time of expectation, when we prepare our home and our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day. The word Advent is derived from the Latin word adventus, which means “coming”.
Advent is a season of hope, a time to nurture peace and experience joy, in anticipation for the love that we all share through the experience of celebrating the birth of Jesus.
As you and your family prepare for Christmas, remember to focus on this time of preparing your hearts and minds for Jesus birth. Wake up each day with the purpose of inviting Jesus into your heart and allow the purpose of Advent to transform your daily actions and focus.
Advent Liturgy Student Recount
Information:
Yesterday was the first day of Advent. At church yesterday they lit up the Hope Candle on the Advent Wreath.
The Hope Candle:
The hope candle is lit on the 1st Sunday of Advent which is the 30 of November this year. It is purple and it symbolises hope for the return of Jesus.
Recount of The St John's Liturgy this morning
At today’s Advent liturgy at St Johns primary school we learned about the hope candle in the Advent Wreath. The candle was lit while music played. Each class was handed an Advent bag to take back to their classes.
In each there is 1 wreath and 4 candles: 3 of them are purple and one is pink.
These candles represent the 4 words hope, faith, joy and love.
In 3/4B we look forward to using our advent wreath during prayer time and reflecting on what advent means as we wait for Jesus’ Birthday.
