We finally moved into the new art room term four. It took a week, with the support of integration aids and students, to move all the art equipment from the hallway into the new art space. It looks marvellous and we all love the new light and sounds of the art room. It is so big and so beautiful to work in. The kids especially love the circle carpet where we do our opening verse and share our art discussions.

I have set up a hot glue gun station for lots of creative sculpture making and the light box has its own special table now.

Students started in the new space with great energy and creativity as they completed their felting projects for the Arts Festival. Throughout the unit, we explored different types of felting and experimented with a range of forms that students could use to express their ideas. Each year level selected a unique theme and shape as the starting point for their creations.

Students learned both needle felting and wet felting techniques, using a soft, flexible resist to shape their designs. They began by developing and refining their ideas in their sketchbooks before layering their first pieces of wool. Careful colour choices and thoughtful patterns helped bring their animal forms to life.

Working with sharp felting needles proved challenging at times, but students quickly learned that patience, focus, and precision led to beautiful results. After the final wet-felting stage, they added the finishing touches by stitching or needle felting additional details onto their creations.

Our Grade 6 students are busily working on their graduation toys, designing and creating unique costumes for them. The students are full of enthusiasm and imagination, bringing to life some truly one-of-a-kind creations!

The students should feel very proud of their perseverance and the stunning artworks they produced!

To support student learning, parents are invited to help in the art room. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
