Music

Classroom Music
This term it has all been about feeling the beat in our bodies. This is the foundation of all music playing and improves rhythm reading and ensemble playing. Differentiating between beat and rhythm is a learned skill and all our musicians are going from strength to strength!
Our Prep and year 1 students have learned to sing Fiddle Diddle Dee, keep a steady beat to the song and create their own body percussion breaks! We have had fun listening to the sounds our body makes.
Students used the fabulous Rainbow Ring to feel the beat together. We kept the beat to the chant Ickabacka Soda Cracker and discovered the shy, silent beat - then gave it a voice with lots of silly sounds!
We have been learning a fun line dance called Syncopated Cyril. The person at the head of the Cyril line walks down the street with a silly walk and the person at the head of the Wanda line has to copy them.
We had a spooky time with a Halloween game called Pass The Pumpkin which our musicians loved! https://vimeo.com/1134067666?fl=tl&fe=ec
Year 2 students have been singing Here Comes The Sun this term as their sing-a-long song which is always nice at this time of year (even though it’s not always true..).
Students used the fabulous Rainbow Ring to feel the beat together. We kept the beat to the chant Ickabacka Soda Cracker and discovered the shy, silent beat - then gave it a voice with lots of silly sounds!
We had a spooky time with a Halloween game called Pass The Pumpkin which our musicians loved! There were zombies and pumpkin passes, all practicing musical skills while being very spooky. https://vimeo.com/1134068256?fl=tl&fe=ec
Year 3/4 students are having a lovely time this term extending their skills into ensemble playing (playing as a group). Learning to play as part of an ensemble is pretty magical for a whole lot of reasons, musical and social/emotional. Playing in an ensemble is like being in a community, you need to be responsible for knowing and playing your own part but are also interdependent with all the other members of the group. You need patience and listening skills, confidence and focus. Everyone in an ensemble is as important as everyone else, no matter what part you play.
We have been learning the song Caravan and have started adding instrumental parts. Students have tried out solos in the instrumental breaks, experimenting with what sounds good to them.
3/4s also played the spooky Halloween game Pass The Pumpkin. Some stretched themselves to play the rhythm against the steady beat without getting distracted by the pumpkin!
Thornbury’s Got A LOT of Talent
The Arts Ambassadors and I had such a lovely time seeing all the groups who wanted to take part in TGLT! There were so many fun acts and I can’t wait to see them all at the Arts Festival!!! Big thanks to our Arts Ambassadors Olive B and Felix PL for giving up their recesses and lunchtimes for nearly a week to help with the process!
Mary’s Dance
TPS dancers have been working hard in preparation for their concerts coming up on the 23rd and 30th November.
