Garden
New Garden Bed
We have gained another garden bed, which was put together by the 3/4 students. All of our SAKG groups then worked together to layer it with sticks, shredded paper, worm castings, compost and soil. It is now ready for our new spring seedlings!
Rain
Even though we have had plenty of rain, our garden beds still need watering when the soil begins to dry out. On the days when it is too wet to work outside, we have plenty to keep us busy indoors. Students have been saving seeds, making more seedling pots and identifying which tools are used for different jobs in the garden.
Seedlings
The seedlings growing in our hothouse are starting to shoot and will be ready to plant in the garden before the school holidays. We are also staggering our planting so that our produce is ready to harvest at different times rather than everything being ready at once.
Chooks
Our beautiful chooks are coping well with not being able to free-range. For their safety, we have decided to keep them safely in their pens while we manage the risk of bird flu (H5N1). We have planned an extension to the chook run and would love some help over the school holidays to concrete the pole holes and put the wire over the new area and help put together a new shed in the garden. Garden Packs
Our Waverley Meadows Primary School Garden Packs are now available! Each pack includes worm tea, worm castings, seeds, seed bombs and a WMPS Garden Guide.
If you would like to purchase or view a garden pack, please see the school office. We also have a lot of worm tea in small bottles.
Wheelers Hill Lions Club Visit – Wattle Day
On September 1, Wattle Day, we were fortunate to welcome 10 members of theWheelers Hill Lions Club to our garden. The Lions Club members spent time exploring our garden and then stayed for lunch with our students. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to share our garden, connect with members of our local community and learn from their knowledge and experience. We are grateful for the ongoing support and friendship of the Wheelers Hill Lions Club and love welcoming them into our school community.
