Aussie of the Month:

Aussie of the month recognises exceptional students who are contributing to their community and reflecting some of the values we share as Australians such as:

Fair go -not just how we apply ourselves but providing opportunity for all

Inclusion – celebrating our differences and the rights we are entitled to.

Isaac Nguyen - Isaac is a wonderful Foundation student who consistently excels in both literacy and numeracy. He approaches his learning with enthusiasm and confidence, always eager to challenge himself and learn something new. Isaac is also a kind and caring friend who is always willing to help and encourage others. He is a fantastic role model for his classmates, demonstrating respect, kindness and a positive attitude each day. We are so proud of Isaac and all that he has achieved!

Viraat Sharma - Viraat is a wonderful example of the qualities we look for in an Aussie of the Month. He consistently looks out for others and genuinely cares about the people around him. He regularly checks in with students, both older and younger than him, and is always willing to offer support, encouragement, or a helping hand.

Viraat brings a positive attitude to school every day at Waverley Meadows Primary School. He is friendly, approachable and helps create a positive environment for those around him. Viraat also shows fantastic emotional literacy, understanding his own emotions and recognising how others may be feeling. He is thoughtful and empathetic and is often quick to notice when someone might need a little extra support.

Viraat, thank you for always looking out for others, for your positive attitude and for the kindness and empathy you show each day. You are a fantastic role model and a wonderful example of the values of Aussie of the Month.

International Students:

On the 4th of September, we said goodbye to another pair of our international student vistors. We loved having Orlando and Tacia as amazing members of our school community and hope to see them again next year.

Sustainability News:

The Grade 6 students have conducted a rubbish audit throughout the classrooms and discovered that 98% of the rubbish was soft plastics and paper recycling. This prompted us to take a closer look at our bin system and redesign how we use our bins.

As a result, the general rubbish bin has been made smaller, while a larger soft plastics recycling bin has been introduced. Classes are now also responsible for emptying their paper recycling into the large recycling bin outside and taking their small compost bins to the garden. These changes are helping our school reduce waste, improve recycling and compost more of our food scraps.

Guardian Child Care Centre Visit:

We welcomed the children from Guardian Child Care Centre to our garden for a fun morning of exploring and learning!  The children learnt all about our worms and worm farms, discovering how worms help us turn food scraps into valuable nutrients for the garden. They also planted rosemary and took part in a nature hunt, searching the garden for interesting plants, insects and other signs of nature.

It was wonderful to see the children getting their hands dirty, connecting with nature and learning how we can all help care for our environment.

Maths Talent Quest 2026 - Results

At the end of Term 2 and the beginning of Term 3, all classes at WMPS begin working on their Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) Project. The MTQ is a competition run by the Maths Association of Victoria, open to all schools. It encourages students to connect their maths to real-world concepts and present their findings. It's a fantastic way to connect multiple maths concepts together through authentic experiences

All 5 classes sent off projects this year and we had some fantastic results; they are below:

FA - We're Going on a Bear Hunt

An investigation into the maths in the much-loved story by Michael Rosen

Result - Encouragement

1/2A - A Trip to the Zoo

An investigation into the different kinds of maths we would encounter when planning for an excursion to the zoo.

Result - Distinction (Score: 30/35)

3/4A - Planning a City Excursion

The students planned and took part in an excursion to the city on public transport that included the museum, aquarium and chocolate shop. 

Result - High Distinction (Score: 34/35)

This project was also selected to enter the National MTQ competition.

5A - Create Your Own Restaurant - on a Budget

The students took on the challenge of creating a restaurant from the ground up, including layout, budget and menu.

Result - Distinction (Score: 29/35)

6A - Aura Farming - Can Vibes become Data?

The students created an 'Aura Index' to measure the Aura of celebrities and quantify it through data.

Result: Credit
