Principal's Update

TERM 3 UPDATE:

What a fantastic Term 3 we have had! We welcomed several short-term International students and offered them great opportunities at WMPS. Each student had a buddy in their class who showed them around. We visited the Zoo and had a Little Day Out - venturing to Waverley Park for a sausage sizzle and a play on the fabulous playground there.  

Our Athletics Day was great fun with lots of achievements made. We took a busload of 24 students to the District Athletics Competition against other schools. 5 of our students are continuing on to Division Athletics early in 4th Term- we wish them all the best as they compete!

We had a very successful Book Week and Science Week with lots of activities.

Our Wellbeing Wednesday lunchtime activities are very popular and our cross age Clubs Program Wednesday afternoons has gone off with a bang! One group made volcanoes with paper mache, painted them and then watched the lava ooze out.

BUNNINGS BBQ: Thank you to all our helpers at the Bunnings BBQ - it was another great success - raising $2000 towards our SAKG kitchen upgrade.

TRIVIA NIGHT! What a hit that was! Lots of tricky trivia questions, lots of raffle prizes and Silent Auction Items. Our Community dug deep and we raised over $4500 towards our SAKG kitchen upgrade. Thank you to all the families who donated goods for our raffle prizes - which Mariella packaged beautifully.  Thanks also to Pamela and Clare for their ongoing work behind the scenes- marketing events and organising payments etc and to Jo Price, Ellmo and Mariella for helping with set up. Mandy Dennehy and Bronwyn Mcilroy were the driving force behind this very successful event. Well done to everyone!

DISCO: Our fluoro disco on Tuesday night was great fun! All our students had the opportunity to draw with Fluoro pens on their tshirts and then under the UV lights their white shirts looked amazing! The bubbles were flowing and DJ Williamson had the tunes popping! A great night had by all.

CAMP: TERM 4

We can't wait for our camp next term - it will be a really special experience heading to Sovereign Hill and living there for 3 days. 

Make sure you have given consent and paid for your child to be part of this unique experience!

SWIMMING:

Our 2 week swimming program is coming up in 4th Term also. This provides a great opportunity for all our students to be as waterproof as possible before summer! Make sure your child doesn't miss out on this great experience!

FISHING RODS FOR GRADE 5 STUDENTS:

We are thrilled to announce that all grade 5 students are being given a Little Anglers Fishing Kit -which includes a fishing rod, reel with line, tackle box with some hooks, lead-free sinkers, swivels and a lure, as well as a Kids Guide to Fishing! As a participating school with the Victorian Fisheries Authority the program is based on the Vic Curriculum areas of focus, movement and motor development and safety considerations.

If you would like any further information about how to use the Little Anglers Kit please log on to the Victorian Fisheries Authority website. It has useful information, instructional videos and online resources about where and how to fish. Children under 18 do not need a licence to fish.

ROWING: Recently I spent the weekend in Mildura on the Murray River participating in an 80km rowing marathon fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctors. The weather was beautiful, the row was challenging but great fun and the drive home Sunday was long, but I felt a great sense of achievement.
