Grade 3/4A

The Grade 3/4A class have successfully completed their large unit on Multiplication and Division. This was a huge success, with students developing their confidence and knowledge through a range of strategies, activities and problem solving challenges. They have begun exploring Chance and have been enjoying investigating the likelihood of different events and making predictions based on chance.

The Grade 3/4A class have continued to thoroughly enjoy their study of 'His Name Was Walter' (2018), written by Emily Rodda. Students have now made their way further through the novel and have had so much fun exploring the characters, events and intriguing clues within the story. They have continued to develop their comprehension, prediction and discussion skills while sharing their ideas and interpretations during class discussions.

In Writing, students delved into poetry over the last 3 weeks, exploring Australian poems like 'Waltzing Matilda' and 'Dog Days' and writing their own verses for similar poems. We also explored writing Limerick poems, focusing on creating a story, not just rhyming for the sake of rhyming.

3/4 Inquisitive minds

This term, the Year 3/4 students are investigating Local Government and the important role it plays in our community. They have explored the three levels of government and learnt about the responsibilities of local councils. Students investigated the different wards within the City of Monash, identified the councillor who represents each ward, and discovered who leads the council.

To deepen their understanding of the democratic process, the class held a mini election, electing eight councillors and one mayor. The remaining students became community residents, using their "Waverley Cove" model, designed during last term's Design Cycle unit, as the setting for identifying community needs and proposing improvements. Throughout the term, the councillors and mayor will work alongside residents to debate ideas, make decisions and solve local issues, giving students an authentic insight into how local government operates. Last week The "real" Mayor of Monash, Cr Stuart James visited and answered all the questions that were prepared about his role in council and his life.

Grade 5A

The Grade 5A class have successfully completed their large unit on Multiplication and Division. This was a huge success, with many students making excellent progress and strengthening their understanding of multiplication and division strategies. Students have now moved on to learning about Chance, where they have been exploring probability and using mathematical language to describe the likelihood of different events. Students have also been applying their mathematical knowledge across a range of topics and challenging themselves with multiple step worded problems. These activities have encouraged students to think carefully, select appropriate strategies and explain their mathematical thinking.

In Reading, students have finished their study of 'The Golden Door' (2011), written by Emily Rodda. They have enjoyed exploring the fantasy world of the novel and developing their comprehension, prediction and inference skills. Students have now begun exploring 'Billionaire Boy' by David Walliams, which has provided plenty of opportunities for discussion, prediction and enjoyment.

In Writing, students have continued developing their Creative Writing skills. They have thoroughly enjoyed creating imaginative pieces inspired by their favourite books, movies and fairy tales. Students have been experimenting with ideas, descriptive language and creative storytelling while developing their confidence and individual writing styles.

Grade 6A

The Grade 6A class have continued their learning about Angles and Measurement. They have been challenging themselves with increasingly difficult equations and problem solving activities, applying their understanding of angles and measurement while explaining their mathematical thinking. Students have embraced these challenges and have continued to build their confidence when working through more complex problems.

The Grade 6A class have been very successful in their study of Biographies. Students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the lives and achievements of inspiring individuals while developing their comprehension skills in Reading. They have engaged in thoughtful discussions about the challenges, successes and qualities that have shaped the lives of the people they have studied.

In Writing, students have continued developing their Biography Writing skills. They have been using their research to gather, organise and present important information in a clear and engaging way. Students have worked hard to develop their writing and have enjoyed learning more about the individuals they have chosen to explore.

Term 3, 2026 Recap
