House Cross Country

House Cross Country was held last Friday in perfect weather! The students in years 3 to 6 had been preparing for this challenging event for the past 6 weeks during PE lessons, so they were ready to take on the 2km or 3km run. The purpose of Cross Country running is to improve physical fitness and stamina but also to encourage skills such as resilience and persistence. Added to that, the spirit and enthusiasm of the students was defienetly apparent as they ran to gain points for their House team.
The Year 3/4 students had a 1.8km course - 4 laps around the school. The results for every student were outstanding - with some students having a goal to make the Interschool team, while most students had a goal of competing and completing the race.
The 5/6 students course was a little more challenging - 2.7km or 6 laps around the school. Again, all the students who participated had excellent results!
The results for each race were (1st, 2nd, 3rd):
Year 3 boys - Heston, Lachlan O, Zachary W
Year 3 girls - Sophia, Jessie, Gurnaaz
Year 4 boys - Mason Ph, William B, Lucas V
Year 4 girls - Mikaela, Rasha, Sienna A
Year 5 boys - Noah W, Hayden N, Jack R
Year 5 girls - Georgia B, Emily H, Shae
Year 6 boys - Nicholas P, Tony, Arlo
Year 6 girls - Olivia, Chiara, Hayley
The final team results for the House Cross Country trophy were:
1st: Green
2nd: Red
3rd: Gold
4th: Blue
Big thanks must go to our parent volunteers - some who stayed for the whole day and cheered so loudly that they were losing their voice by the end of the races! All the parents who assisted throughout the day by being course marshalls or handing out ribbons were a huge reason the day ran so smoothly!
A SJV Cross Country team has now been selected to represent our school at the interschool District event to be held next week. We wish our team all the best and look forward to hearing how they go!
