5/6O - We Are So Back!

Welcome to Term 2! We’ve had a wonderful start and we are looking forward to a busy and productive term ahead.
2 Truths and a Lie - Holiday Edition
On our first day back, we shared our holiday highlights with a twist! We read out 3 statements each about our holidays and our classmates had to guess which statements were true and which one was a lie. Some of us were excellent detectives, others very convincing “story tellers.”
The Australian Government
This term, we are learning about the Australian Government. So far, we have explored the key features of democracy, different systems of government and the concept of Federation. In the coming weeks, we will be investigating the responsibilities of the different levels of government (federal, state and local) and how elections work in Australia.
Anzac Day Liturgy
On Friday 24th April, we gathered as a school community for an Anzac Day Liturgy to honour those who have served in wars. Through prayers, thoughtful readings and a moment of silence, we showed our respect and reflected on their heroic sacrifice.
Public Speaking
Public Speaking is up and running in 5/6O! In Term 2, we are participating in the Advanced Presentation Skills course facilitated by Ms Sandra de Geest. In this program, 5/6O is learning how to deliver both prepared and “off the cuff” speeches, as well as how to provide constructive feedback on the presentations of others. Congratulations to Xavier who won Best Off the Cuff Speech in session one, and Adele who received the certificate for Best Prepared Speech. This term, Ms Sandra de Geest will keep us on our toes! We are embracing this rewarding challenge!
House Cross Country
Last Friday, we were involved in House Cross Country here at SJV. It was pleasing to see everyone demonstrate perseverance, determination and terrific sportsmanship. Next Friday, several students from our class will progress to the District Level to compete against students from other schools. Run like the wind!
