Library and the CBCA Shortlisted Books 2026
In the Library this term, all classes have been participating in learning around the 2026 CBCA Book of the Year Shortlists. Students have been investigating the books in each award category, discovering the outstanding Australian authors and illustrators behind them.
Each year, the awards celebrate excellence across a range of categories, helping families, teachers and students discover quality books to enjoy together.
Younger Readers (7 - 12 years)
Chapter books for primary-aged readers featuring engaging stories that encourage a love of reading while exploring themes such as friendship, adventure, family and resilience.
Early Childhood (0 - 6 years)
Books designed for preschool and early primary children, supporting language development, early literacy and shared reading experiences.
Picture Book of the Year
Outstanding picture books where words and illustrations work together to create a rich and meaningful reading experience for readers of all ages.
Eve Pownall Award
Celebrates exceptional non-fiction books that inform, inspire curiosity and deepen children's understanding of the world around them.
New Illustrator Award
Recognises an emerging Australian illustrator whose first published work demonstrates exceptional artistic talent and storytelling through illustration.
These books are currently staying in the Library while the classes explore them this term but will be available to borrow in Term 4.
Remember to start thinking about Book Week Parade costumes. The students have been brainstorming and drawing some in class time and I can’t wait to see them!

Monday 31st August - Book Week and Lamont Book Fair begins
Monday 31st August -Marc McBride Author Visit for Years 3-6
Wednesday 2nd September - Book Week parade 2.30pm on Assembly area
Friday 4th September - Last day for Lamont Book Fair
Friday 9th September - Sarah Speedie Author Visit for Foundation - Year 2 (Week 9)
