1/2DT in Action

Year 1/2DT has had a great start to Term 3, jumping straight back into learning and interacting positively together.

Literacy

We have been reading parts of the book "My Place" to discover how families, jobs, technology, transport and other aspects of life in Australia have changed throughout our history. We are recording our information in a grid so we can compare the changes. We will look more closely at items from the past in the coming weeks.

Mathematics

In our unit on Shape, we worked together to make quadrilaterals, which are closed shapes with 4 straight sides and 4 vertices (corners). We made squares, rectangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, kites and parallelograms.

So far in our unit on Addition and Subtraction, we have been practising using strategies such as doubles and near doubles, count on and count back, jump to the nearest ten and partitioning into tens and ones to solve problems. We worked with a partner or in a small group to complete activities or play games that reinforce these skills.

Grandparents’ Day

Before our special guests arrived, we thought about what makes our grandparents and older friends special. We used these ideas to create poems.

St John Vianney's Feast Day

As the class responsible for celebrating St John Vianney's Feast Day Mass with the school on Friday this week, we learned about his life and works. We learned that school was hard for St John Vianney, but he never gave up; that he loved God and always wanted to be a priest; that he was a very good listener and tried hard to look after those in need. We thought about ways we can be like St John Vianney in our lives today. We are looking forward to sharing our ideas when we celebrate Mass with the school on Friday.
