SRC Update

Our wonderful student representatives have been busy gathering student input from their classes - they were tasked with asking the following questions:

  1. What lunchtime clubs would you like in the future?

  2. What would you like to see improved / changed or added around the school?

The answers they shared were diverse and thoughtful. I have shared the answers to question 2 with Sue and the School Consultative Committee as a fantastic example of student voice within the school.

Lunchtime Clubs

Students have been enjoying attending lunchtime clubs as an alternate activity to outside play during lunch. It is lovely to see students from different year levels collaborating and supporting each other during these sessions.

Activities in the Wellbeing Hub

Students have worked in small groups over the first 3 weeks of term discussing how they can recognise different emotions, how they can help themselves to regulate their emotions if they are getting upset or frustrated, and acknowledging their strengths and what they are thankful for.

The plants we grew from seeds last term are in the Kitchen garden and thriving! I can't wait to see how big our Sweetcorn plants get this term.

Depression & Young People

Depression is a serious mental health condition that can affect how children and young people think, feel and interact with the world around them. While occasional sadness and mood changes are a normal part of growing up, depression is more persistent and can significantly impact a young person’s relationships, school engagement and overall wellbeing.

Recognising the signs of depression can sometimes be challenging, particularly during adolescence when emotional and behavioural changes are common. Academic pressures, friendship difficulties, social media and challenges around identity and belonging can all contribute to emotional distress. Understanding the warning signs and knowing when to seek help are important steps in ensuring young people receive the support they need.

This edition of SchoolTV explores the signs and causes of depression, offering practical guidance and strategies to help recognise concerns early and provide appropriate support.
