Hello to all CNPS families. We are fast approaching the middle of Term 4 which is both exciting and hard to believe!

There are a number of special events that have taken place over the first few weeks of Term 4 which include:

  • F - 2 sports day

  • Kindergarten visitors to Foundation

  • Division athletics

  • Eastern Metro region athletics

  • Divisional volleyball - Year 5/6

  • Australian Mathematics competition - Year 1/2

  • Inspire STEM Gallery excursion Year 3/4

There are many more exciting events planned across the remainder of the term so please continue to check Compass regularly and stay up to date on what is happening at CNPS.

Student toys in classrooms

We have observed an increasing number of children who are bringing soft toys, trading cards, Squishies and other items into their classroom and attempting to hold onto, sit with or play with these items during learning time.

We would appreciate if you could please speak to your children about this and kindly ask that items such as these are not brought to school.  Children are being distracted by these and are disengaging from their learning, which is frustrating for teachers who are working hard to support children's learning in the classroom.

Teaching and Learning

Assessment & reporting

As we approach the end of the year and prepare for Semester 2 reporting, it is important to highlight again the importance of regular student attendance. Teachers are currently completing assessments and gathering evidence to make informed judgements about each student’s learning and progress against the Victorian Curriculum 2.0.

When students are absent, they miss important learning opportunities, explicit teaching and guided practice, which can impact their ability to understand and consolidate new knowledge and skills. When students are unwell though, we of course understand the importance of children remaining at home to rest and recover!

We encourage all families to prioritise regular school attendance to ensure students can fully participate in learning, demonstrate their progress and celebrate their achievements.

Sustainable Engineers - Year 1/2

At the end of Term 2, our Year 1/2 students completed the Sustainable Engineers program, developing their digital technology skills and building an understanding of coding. Through hands-on learning experiences, students explored how to create and follow simple code to control the movements of robots. This engaging program encouraged students to develop their problem-solving, logical thinking and creativity while exploring how technology can be used to design solutions and bring ideas to life.

School wide positive behaviour Support (SWPBS)

Gallery Image

Clayton North Primary School has begun trialling our revamped School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach, recognising and celebrating students who demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Students earn SWPBS tickets as recognition of this with each ticket representing one point. Once students collect 10 points, they can visit our Celebration Shop and choose an item of their choice.

In addition, all tickets contribute to our whole-school celebration jar! When the jar is full, all students will celebrate with a whole-school reward, selected by students through the Student Representative Council (SRC).

This approach reinforces our shared expectations, encourages students to consistently demonstrate Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, and celebrates our collective efforts in creating a safe, positive and supportive school community.

Thank you to families for your continued support and have a lovely weekend.
