It’s been a busy and creative start to Term 4 in the Visual Arts Classroom, with students across all year levels exploring new techniques, developing their artistic skills and working on some exciting projects!
Our Foundation students have been exploring printmaking and construction techniques to create colourful props and puppets for the upcoming school production. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm as they prepare to bring their artistic creations to the stage!
Our Year 1/2 students have been experimenting with a range of construction and mixed media techniques to create imaginative under-the-sea dioramas. Their colourful underwater worlds are beginning to take shape, featuring an exciting collection of sea creatures, coral and marine environments.
Year 3/4 students have been putting the finishing touches on their vibrant and expressive bird sculptures, demonstrating wonderful creativity and construction skills. They are now beginning to explore the colourful work of Australian botanical artist Kirsten Katz, using painting and collage techniques to create their own botanical-inspired artworks.

Finally, our Year 5/6 students have been refining their pencil drawing skills and exploring the principles of portraiture in preparation for creating their end-of-year self-portraits. These special artworks will celebrate their individuality and personal growth throughout their primary school years, making a meaningful way to conclude their artistic journey at CNPS.
What a great start to Term 4 by all students from Foundation to Year 6. Well done everyone!
Students in Foundation and Years 1/2 have been working on their catching, running, kicking and vertical jump skills. They have been consolidating these skills while taking part in small group activity rotations. Students have also been participating in simple team games, such as kickball and 'the floor is lava'.
On Wednesday morning this week all students from Foundation to Year 2 were involved in a fun sports morning. The morning was a great success, and all students had a great time. Thank you to all the staff and Year 5/6 students for your efforts in ensuring the event was a success.

On Wednesday, October 7, 8 students represented our school at the Monash Waverly Divisional Track and Field Championships. All students put in 100% effort and were great ambassadors for our school. We achieved some fantastic results, with two students finishing in the top two in their events. Ofa came in second in the 11-year-old age group girls 100-meter sprint, and Katerina came second in both the shotput and discus in the 9/10-year-old age group girl's events. Both these students will now compete at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Track and Field Championships. The event will be held at Knox athletic track on Thursday the 22/10. If either of these students are placed in either first or second in their events, they then progress to the Primary State Championships to be held on Thursday, October 29. Well done, both of you and we all wish you the best of luck.

On Wednesday, October 14, 10 girls from Years 5/6 represented our school at the Monash Waverly Divisional Girls Volleyball Finals. The girls put in a fantastic effort on the day, winning 4 out of their 6 games. They came in equal second but on count back were placed in third. Well done girls, you did yourself and the school proud.

News flash: Katerina came third in the discus and second in the shotput. She has qualified to go to the State Primary championships next Thursday. Well done, Katerina, we wish you the best of luck!

Following is a Volleyball recount by Anna, Amika and Naura, who were part of our school's girls' volleyball team.
Volleyball Recap
On Wednesday, October 14th 2026, 10 girls went to the Rings in Ringwood to compete in a divisional volleyball tournament.
Our first game was against a school called Glendal Primary School. We managed to steal the first set 18 to 12. We lost the second set 15 to 18. In the final set we managed to get 12 consecutive points, but Glendal managed to cut off our streak and scored back with multiple moves that in turn caused us to lose the set.
Our next game was against a team from Essex Heights. We had again managed to steal the first set with a score of 18 to 13. During the second set we began to fall behind but soon started scoring multiple hits and went on to win our first game at divisional volleyball.
Soon after, we played against Mount View Primary School. We won the first set comfortably, 18–10. However, in the second set, the opposition began rotating their players, which caused us a few challenges. We managed to overcome the difficulties and won the match in straight sets!
Soon after we played against a team from Mount Waverly North Primary School, the team who had the best chance to win the entire competition. As soon as we started playing, we realised why they were the
favorites on the day. Miraculously we managed to win the first set against them with a score of 18 to 16. However, we soon started struggling and lost the next 2 sets.
Our next opponent was from a private school, Mount Scopus. We had begun to play and soon it became comfortable to pick up their shots, and we won the game in two straight sets.
Our second last game was against a team from Mount Waverly North Primary School, the team who had the best chance of winning the entire thing. As soon as we played, we noticed why they had the best chance. Miraculously we managed to win the first set against them with a score of 16 to 18. However, soon we started struggling and Mount View had taken the next 2 sets.
And finally, our last game of the day was against The Good Shepherd Primary School. As soon as we started playing, the weaknesses and strengths of their team had become clear. Soon we started to easily find our rhythm and pulled off an easy and comfortable win.
We came back exhausted and a little frustrated, but we had managed to pull off 4 out of 6 wins and had come 3rd. It was the first time our school had participated in divisional volleyball, so we were proud to have represented our school.

Finally in the last week of Term 3, 20 Year 5/6 students went to Clarinda Tennis Club to take part in the Oakleigh District Tennis Hotshots' tournament. 10 boys and 10 girls represented our school. This was the first time our school was involved in this event. Both the mixed/boys and girls teams came in fourth on the day. Great effort everyone and let's aim for the top two next year.
Following is a recount by Anna, who was part of the girls' team on the day.

Girls' tennis Hotshots
On the 11th of September 2026, CNPS had two teams go out to Clarinda to compete in the Oakleigh District Tennis Hotshot's tournament.
At the start of the day, we were introduced to the match rules and gameplay, to make sure we understood 100 percent. Our school players put all their training into their matches and tried their hardest against challenging opponents. Both the mixed and girls' team had to play singles and doubles. After every match we shook hands. After finishing all our games, the girls' team had to play off for 3rd place against Sacred Heart Primary School. Unfortunately, we lost and placed 4th place out of 6 schools, but we were still so proud of our achievements and gameplay. The mixed team also played off for third place but unfortunately, they lost and ended up coming in fourth.
