Maths Talent Quest

The Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) is a nationwide competition, run every year by the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV), where students complete and present a mathematical investigation of their choice. This is a great opportunity for a richer, open ended way of learning maths by exploring real world problems, asking big questions, and creating unique investigations.

We’re excited to share that Karoo will once again be participating in the MTQ. Last week, students in Year 3-6 with a passion for mathematics were invited to take part in the 2026 MTQ.

If your child has expressed interest in the Maths Talent Quest (MTQ), you should have received a parent letter along with a Student Tip Sheet and a Student Checklist, which are also available via Compass. You will also have received a Compass Event notification to provide consent for your child’s participation. Please note that participation in MTQ is voluntary and there is no cost involved.

The MTQ is an enrichment opportunity and requires a high level of independent learning, as well as ongoing support and encouragement at home. This may include helping your child plan their investigation, manage time effectively, and access materials or resources needed for their project.

To confirm your child's participation, please provide consent via Compass by Friday 8th May.  By doing so, you acknowledge the commitment involved and your willingness to support your child throughout their MTQ journey.

To support families, an online Parent Information Session will be held in the coming weeks to provide further guidance and answer any questions. In addition, students will have access to weekly MTQ sessions with Mrs Vitas during school time, where they will receive support with planning, feedback, and tracking their progress.
