Mrs Courtney Hoffmann

 Dear Karoo PS Community,

A warm welcome to Term 2, 2026. I hope all members of our community enjoyed a restful holiday break and have settled back into school over the past two weeks.

It has certainly been a busy and exciting start to the term - from ANZAC Day commemorations to House Athletics Day and District Cross Country. Then with our Colour Run today, followed by our Mother’s and Others celebration on Friday 8th May, our Education Open Afternoon on Wednesday 20th May and many more events, there is plenty to look forward to. It is shaping up to be a vibrant and memorable term for our school community.

Colour Run

Today is the day of our highly anticipated 2026 Karoo PS Colour Run!  I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our KPS staff, KPA, Parent Volunteers, and community for all coming together to make this event such a success.  I would also like to congratulate our students on their fundraising efforts and our whole school community for believing in and supporting our school.  It is with your support of our fundraising events that we are able to implement key enhancements to our school's learning and physical environment that directly benefit our students.

I look forward to running our colour run course with our students and families and experiencing all the exciting obstacles, as well as celebrating our school fundraising efforts and Teacher Slime Time!  Look forward to seeing you all on the course!

ANZAC Day

Karoo Primary School was proud to lay a wreath at the Waterford Park ANZAC Commemoration on Saturday 25th April, joining our community in honouring this important day.

ANZAC Day is a time for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude. It recognises the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country, and reminds us of values such as mateship, resilience, and unity.  At our recent ANZAC Day assembly on Friday 24th April, our students deepened their understanding through stories and reflections shared by our School Captains, Student Voice Captains, and SRC members. Earlier in the week, these student leaders attended the Rotary Club of Boronia Schools Commemoration Service, where they represented our school with pride and respect.  We are very proud of how our students engaged in these meaningful experiences and represented our school community.

Our student leaders look forward to attending the upcoming ANZAC Day service at the Shrine on Tuesday 5th May.

Mother's and Other's Celebration

We warmly invite all mums, grandmothers, carers, and special loved ones to join us for our Mother’s & Other’s Celebration at school. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the important people in our students’ lives.

Start the morning with a delicious pancake breakfast, served fresh and full of smiles!  Then, from 9:00–9:50am, enjoy time in our open classrooms, where students will proudly share their learning and special activities with their guests. We look forward to celebrating this special occasion with our school community!

Education Week Celebrations

We are looking forward to celebrating Education Week with an open afternoon on Wednesday 20th May from 3 - 4:30pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity to join us to celebrate World Maths Day at a whole school assembly and to visit your child's classrooms and see learning on show in our Maths Reflection journals.

On our Open Afternoon evening we will be holding our 2027 Foundation Discovery Night from 5-6pm.  At this evening, we invite prospective 2027 Foundation families to come and discover our wonderful school.  If you are or know families who are interested in discovering more about Karoo PS, please encourage them to contact the school to book their place.

Industrial Action Updates

As you are aware the Australian Education Union (AEU) Members are currently engaging in Industrial Action to encourage the Victorian Government to recognise the work of Teachers and Educational Support Staff.  A number of staff at Karoo PS are members of the AEU and therefore will be involved in the Industrial Action.  This will impact the school in the following ways:

  1. AEU members will only be attending 1 requested meeting per week.
  2. AEU members will not be replying to emails directly sent out from DET (this includes surveys).
  3. AEU members will only be reporting on students' progression reports for Semester 1 and will not be writing report comments for students.
  4. AEU members have the option to participate in a ½ day stop work action on Tuesday 2nd June.

There will be further information that will be shared with our school community throughout the term regarding reports and the 1/2 day stop work action, to ensure our community is aware and can plan effectively for these changes.

Community and Road Safety

Thank you to all members of our community who have displayed safety on our road during pick up and drop off times.  It has been appreciated immensely and has made a positive impact on safety during these times.  Our road crossing supervisors, Sue and Stewart, continue to express how grateful they are to all for their consideration - Keep up the great work!
