CHILWELL FAIR

Year 2 VET Band Raani, Rabhin, El and CJ, ‘Chopped’ and ‘The Routine’ performed at Chilwell Fair to a huge and enthusiastic crowd on March 20th, representing the variety of music that is happening at BHS. It was great to see our students conduct themselves so professionally, and to be such great ambassadors for our school!

On Wednesday 1st April Year 1 VET students performed for the first time to family and friends in the PAC. It was a great night of music. Congratulations to all students for their professional performances!

We also farewelled Pat Consedine, who has moved on to a full-time position. Many thanks to Pat for all his support of our music program over the last three years. Whether teaching percussion, mixing sound at events, or mentoring our VET students, he has been an incredible asset to our program, and we wish him all the best in his future role.

YEAR 7 BANDS CONCERT

At the end of last term we had our Year 7 Bands concert, featuring for the first time our Year 7 Rockband program. This has been a highlight of the year so far, with some outstanding performances from all three bands. Beginning Band performed with great skill and musicianship, and it was so exciting to see such poise and confidence from our junior groups at such an early stage of the year.

Many thanks to Danniel Smith, Amanda Linton, and of course Emma Moffatt, who work tirelessly to encourage and motivate these students. Many thanks too to Joel Gladman our music support coordinator, who organised and ran the BBQ behind the scenes, ensuring the event was a great social occasion for newcomers to the BHS music program.

The afternoon began with some games in the gym, organised by our fabulous band captains Lily, Jacinta, Keith and Jeren, followed by an eggcellent Easter egg hunt.

This hard working quartet then compered the concert, and helped to cook and serve the BBQ for performers and their families. Thanks so much to our band captains for all they are doing to support our junior players!

TOPCLASS

On Monday 30th VCE Performance students attended a Topclass concert, gaining some great insights into what a top scoring music performance looks like at VCE level! We also visited the NGV to round off a great day of creative arts inspiration. Many thanks to Amanda Linton for organising the event.

The following day, members of Declan Chandler’s Saxophone quartet performed Declan’s top scoring composition at Topclass, ‘Loose Ends’ for Saxophone quartet. It was fabulous to hear this work performed in such a beautiful venue, and to hear the warm applause and appreciation from the packed Melbourne Recital Centre. Many congratulations to Declan and hoping he continues to find music a joy in his future career!
