Principal's Report

Term 2 – A positive start
Term 2 has launched with energy and a real sense of momentum across our school community. From the outset, it has been terrific to see students returning with a clear focus and willingness to engage in their learning, setting a strong tone for the weeks ahead.
Our Athletics Carnival was a standout way to begin the term, with a genuine carnival atmosphere created through outstanding participation, House pride and the support of our staff and families. It was a fantastic showcase of what makes Belmont High so special. Over the weekend, I also had the privilege of marching alongside our student leaders at the Geelong ANZAC service. They represented our school with pride and respect, continuing the important tradition of carrying the Rats of Tobruk banner and honouring those who have served.
Beyond this, our VET Outdoor Recreation students embraced the elements on their recent surf camp, demonstrating resilience and teamwork in a completely different learning environment. Back on site, staff engaged in a highly productive Curriculum Day on Tuesday, continuing to refine our practice and strengthen our collective approach to teaching and learning.
And somewhere amongst all of this, the core work of our school has continued seamlessly, with high-quality teaching and learning already well underway. It has been pleasing to see students engaged in their classes from the very beginning, embracing the opportunities in front of them and setting themselves up for a successful term ahead.

Students of the Month
At Belmont High School, we are excited to celebrate success with our “Student of the Month” award, a regular opportunity to celebrate students who consistently go above and beyond in their approach to learning.
Using student reports as a starting point, teachers will nominate individuals who best reflect the following criteria:
- Consistent effort and application in class and a strong work ethic across their studies.
- A positive attitude towards learning, their peers, and the school community.
- Preparedness for learning, including correct uniform, the right materials, and staying focused during class.
- Emerging leadership qualities shown in the classroom setting.
- Strong academic achievement or noticeable growth in their learning over time.
Our STOM for March are highlighted below and will be recognised at our whole school assembly.
BHS Athletics Carnival
Our Athletics Carnival on Thursday was a terrific celebration of everything that makes Belmont High such a vibrant and connected school community. From the moment we arrived, there was an unmistakable carnival atmosphere, music pumping, students proudly dressed in their house colours, and a sea of creativity on display through the many dress-ups across the day. Whether you were part of the “Smurf Army” or stepping onto the track to showcase your wares in the 100m, the energy and enthusiasm were outstanding.
A huge thank you must go to Britt O’Regan for her organisation of the event. Days like this don’t happen by chance, and Britt’s planning ensured everything ran seamlessly, allowing both students and staff to fully immerse themselves in the experience. Equally, we are incredibly grateful to our parent volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the BBQ, cooking what felt like thousands of sausages across the day. Your support plays a vital role in creating the inclusive, community feel that makes our events so special. Thank you for giving your time to be part of it.
Beyond the colour and celebration, the day also highlighted some outstanding athletic performances. It has been fantastic to see our top performers head off today to represent Belmont High at the Barwon Zone Athletics Carnival. We wish them all the very best and look forward to hearing about their efforts when they return this afternoon.
Overall, Thursday’s carnival was a brilliant reflection of our school values in action—respect, opportunity and resilience—on full display.
