R U OK? Day: Every Conversation Matters
This week we acknowledge R U OK? Day, a day that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us. While the question "Are you OK?" may seem simple, it can make a significant difference in helping someone feel seen, heard, and supported.
At St Helena's, we encourage our students to build strong connections with others and to know that it is always okay to talk about their feelings. R U OK? Day provides an opportunity to teach children the value of kindness, empathy, and looking out for one another. By helping students recognise when a friend may need support and encouraging them to seek help from a trusted adult, we strengthen our caring school community.
As parents and caregivers, you play an important role in modelling open and supportive conversations at home. Taking a few moments each day to check in with your child and ask how they are feeling can help create a safe space where they feel comfortable sharing both their joys and their challenges.
This R U OK? Day, let's remember that meaningful conversations do not need to happen only once a year. By staying connected and checking in regularly, we can all contribute to a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and cared for.
