The Oxley Institute of Sport (OIS) program began this term with students already improving in their skills. The College was very fortunate to secure the service of Shaun Atkins as our basketball coach for the program. Shaun is the founder and director of SRA Sports Therapy, an Elite Athlete Development and Injury Rehabilitation facility in Lilydale. He was a Junior Victorian Country State Basketball athlete, and he played three years of High School basketball in the USA, amongst other achievements.
The enthusiasm of the students who enrolled in the program shows clearly in the attendance. Most of the students enrolled in the program have a hundred per cent attendance record, and the ones who missed one or two sessions were due to illness. Training is twice a week on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7.15am to 8.15am in the stadium.
Students received a full report on their progress this week and had the opportunity to complete an online feedback report on the training. Parents can also give their feedback, and most parents have already reported on the positive impact the training had on their children and how it shows in their games over the weekends.
The OIS only runs basketball training this year. The program will finish at the end of Term 3 and will most likely resume early next year over three terms. Due to the high standard of training, we will open the program to all Year 7 to 11 students. Consistency in the program can increase competitiveness in basketballers. We are looking forward to continuing the program, with the hopeful return of netball, when we start a new season during Week 5 in 2026.
The current program will conclude on Tuesday 16 September 2025 when students will receive their final reports on this year's training.
