New research database at St Philip's

We are excited to let you know that our school library now provides free access to Explora, an engaging and easy-to-use research database from EBSCOhost. 

Explora provides a safe, trustworthy digital environment for students to search for information for class projects, research papers, subject folios or homework tasks. 

 

The Explora database is a great alternative to unvetted websites and provides students with reliable, age-appropriate content from the world’s leading magazines and reference books. Explora contains curated information on thousands of topics covering a wide range of subjects including art and music, literature, geography, history, social studies, world cultures and languages, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health and sports.

With Explora, students can: 

  • Search for articles, e-books, news, videos and more using a single search box 
  • Browse popular topics by category to get research ideas 
  • Read Topic Overviews to gain the background information they need to start their research 
  • Listen to HTML articles read aloud with EBSCO’s Text-to-Speech feature  
  • Use the citation tool to build their list of references/works cited 
  • Get research tips on identifying relevant sources, citing them properly and avoiding plagiarism 

 

Students can access Explora from the St Philip’s College online Schoolbox banner (see below)by clicking on the EBSCOhost tile. A personal account will be automatically set up upon the first login and then students are ready to begin searching for information. Students can also create project folders and save searches by using the dashboard menu.
