Bonjour parents and students,

French assessments for all year levels have now been completed! Congratulations to all students for their focus, determination, and hard work. Assessment time can be challenging for both students and teachers, so thank you for the effort and perseverance you have shown throughout the process.

Reports are just around the corner and will reflect students’ progress and achievement in the French content covered across both Term 1 and Term 2.

What We've Been Learning (Weeks 6–7)

Prep

Prep students have completed their verbal assessment, which tested their speaking skills, vocabulary knowledge, and pronunciation. They are now learning about family members in French.

Grade 1

Students have completed their verbal assessment, demonstrating their ability to identify and name classroom objects in French. They have now begun learning vocabulary related to emotions.

Grade 2

Students have completed their verbal assessment, which assessed their ability to orally recognise and identify emotions, animals, and family members in French. They then completed their Me Voici ("All About Me") worksheet, reviewing vocabulary learned over the past two years of French.

Grade 3

Well done to our Grade 3 students for completing their combined verbal and written assessment. They have since begun learning about sports in French and are practicing how to express their favourite sport.

Grade 4

Students completed their written assessment, which tested their understanding of negative sentences, emotions, -er verb conjugations, and numbers 60–80. They are now exploring multilingualism in Australia and researching countries where multiple languages are spoken.

Grade 5

Students completed their written assessment, which covered negative sentences (la négation), -re verbs, two ways of forming yes/no questions, and survey questions. They have now begun learning about the irregular verbs avoir and être.

Grade 6

Students completed their written assessment, which covered negative sentences (la négation), -re verbs, three ways of forming yes/no questions, and survey questions. They have now begun learning about the irregular verbs avoir and être.

French Day Outfit Competition! Thursday, 26 June 2026

As part of our French Day celebrations, students and staff are invited to participate in our French Day Outfit Competition! There will be one prize awarded per year level, as well as a prize for the best-dressed staff member.

There is no need to purchase a new outfit or bring a gold coin donation. Simply get creative with items already in your wardrobe! Students may choose to wear the colours of a Francophone country's flag or go above and beyond by dressing up to represent an aspect of French or Francophone culture. We can't wait to see everyone's creativity and enthusiasm on the day!

Supporting French Learning at Home

If you would like to support your child's French learning at home, please make use of the resources provided in this newsletter. Songs have also been included for Prep–Grade 2 students to help reinforce vocabulary and pronunciation through music, repetition, and fun.

We look forward to another exciting term of language learning and cultural discovery at Tarneit Rise Primary School.

Warm regards,

Mr Zach, Miss Martine, Madame Ma & Mr Kirby
