Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,

This fortnight in Performing Arts, students have continued to develop their musical skills through performing, composing, improvising, and responding to music. Throughout the fortnight, students have explored the elements of music in a variety of engaging ways, building confidence as performers, composers, and creative thinkers.

Our Prep students focused on developing their understanding of rhythm and pitch through hands-on musical experiences. In Week 7, students explored playing rhythmic patterns on a range of untuned percussion instruments, practicing how to keep a steady beat and perform rhythms together. In Week 8, students explored pitch using boomwhackers, discovering how different notes create high and low sounds while participating in fun singing, listening, and playing activities.

Grade 1 students continued working collaboratively on their percussion instrument compositions. During Week 7, they explored how to create and organise musical ideas using a glockenspiel and a variety of untuned percussion instruments. Students experimented with rhythm and melody as they developed their group compositions. In Week 8, they proudly performed their original pieces to the class, demonstrating growing confidence in sharing their musical ideas with an audience.

Grade 2 students built on their composition skills by refining and rehearsing group compositions using a glockenspiel and untuned percussion instruments. In Week 7, students focused on making clear musical choices using the elements of music, including rhythm, pitch, dynamics, and duration, to strengthen their compositions. In Week 8, they performed their completed pieces to the class, showcasing their ability to work collaboratively and apply their understanding of the elements of music in a creative context.

Grade 3 students explored the keyboard in new and creative ways throughout the fortnight. In Week 7, they experimented with different sounds, rhythms, and melodies, developing their understanding of how musical ideas can be created and varied. In Week 8, students worked in small groups to improvise music on the keyboard, demonstrating creativity, listening skills, and cooperation as they created music together.

Grade 4 students proudly performed Count on Me by Bruno Mars to their classmates in Week 7, demonstrating their growing keyboard skills and understanding of pitch, duration, and technique. In Week 8, they explored the keyboard further by experimenting with different sounds, rhythms, and melodies before working in small groups to improvise their own musical pieces. Students showed confidence and creativity as they explored new ways of making music.

Grade 5 students continued developing their group compositions by writing theme-related lyrics to accompany their ukulele and untuned percussion arrangements. In Weeks 7 & 8, they collaborated to create meaningful lyrics that connected with the themes of their classroom learning.

Grade 6 students extended this work by creating more detailed and sophisticated compositions. In Weeks 7 & 8, they developed theme-based lyrics that demonstrated thoughtful planning and a deeper understanding of song structure while integrating ukulele and percussion accompaniment.

It has been wonderful to see students across all year levels continuing to grow as musicians, performers, and composers. We look forward to celebrating more musical achievements next fortnight.
